The Allies continue to land more troops at the rail blocking location. I'm still amazed at how ready these troops are immediately. The late war Allied landing craft and APDs must really be the key there.

I think Dan has made so many landings in this game he has figured out lots of the nuances of large amphibious operations. And, as you say, lots of late more landing craft

It is a decent amount, but I haven't done calculations, and not running tracker it's hard to predict. It also depends on how much I use the remaining fleet and transports.

So far I can still squeeze some back to the HI via the mid-Pacific. Resources are also coming that way, which are at a critical point now. Hard to keep up for those.

Most of what I have is in Japan though. All of the fuel/oil bases were under 20k of fuel/oil until recently when he started preying more directly on tankers and hit the ships around Singers.

Yes. When he lands three infantry units off-base and they're only 30-50% disabled it means he has a lot flexibility in how to cut off my troops and delay reinforcements.

I turned up the ASW in the North and South to high, with many incredibly experienced air groups and some brand new shiny E class boats bumbling around trying to steer away from massed Allied task forces. I'm running a lot of fuel and resources through the central Pacific, and for the most part they're getting through. Dan's focus on the protection of the Chinese invasion has meant that other paths are completely open. If there is a weakness in the kitchen sink op, this is it. It's unassailable, but only in a small radius of the map.

All tankers and a bunch of large, quick and efficient xAKs cargo haulers are heading South to pick up new loads. I'll adopt a pack strategy against so many marauding subs, and keep an eye out for a change of tactics here to make sure I don't blindly run 50 ships into the DS.

On the day about 5 subs reported hit and one given a decent pounding by SC near Sumatra.

Sweeps got about 1:1 over Tungchow in China and Toyohara on Sakhalin today. Trying to keep the pressure on his pools and pilots.

A current map. He has some decent fighter bases here now. My sweeps will have to start eating around the edges for a while as the Ki-83 recover from the past few.

I've gotten everything back into strat mode at Pengpu, and I'm now waiting to see how his forces move and if I can buy a bit more time there for the growing defence of Shanghai.

I decided to sweep for one more day before some rest, and results were mediocre in China. Not quite 1:1, but still decent.

The Allies win Battambang, opening a road to Pnom Penh. We'll see which route the Allies choose to move forward, as tanks are also now knocking on the door at Udon Thani. That one I'll contest, just for kicks. I can support with some air cover and the base in the clear does have three forts, two brigades and some AA cover. We'll see. Maybe a week or two delay.

The KB seems unseen lately, which is odd. Perfectly visible if he'd been retconning and searching around the HI. [;)]

I've now urned tail at Pengpu and all units will be railing away tomorrow. It looks like the Allies have a tank army between there and Nanking, and should be moving forward there. I'll send a few to blocking hexes along the rail, but nothing too heavy. Most will set up in central China.

Another odd issue today. I've not seen this one before. Two regiments that have been digging in near Port Arthur have very quickly developed level 6 and level 7 forts, apparently. Not sure how that happened. It's probably moot as it looks like the main invasion up here has already occurred. These were set up to disable any non-base landings to block rail into Port Arthur. Has anyone ever seen this one before?

I've got about 38k there right now but I'm trying to feed more from the PI and SRA coming over to Hong Kong and Amoy in small TFs. Most bases in China are flush but not over loaded. So there is not a lot of excess to move around. I've got some in the South though, so the longer I can add the supply in the better.

Some small bombardments and some little mine clearing TFs tangle with mines and CD guns in Shanghai. Also, a small invasion goes in at Sabang, where mines take a toll. [:)]

The terrain and forts at Shanghai seem to be working as very little damage or loss of supply occurs with the bombardments from the CL led TFs used so far.

A situation is occurring at Udon Thani that I'd hoped to avoid by having some good AT guns in hex. The tanks attack, get a 1:2, but face only a few losses while the defending brigades are heavily disabled. So. Tomorrow bombers will pick up the slack and hit hard against the Allied units. Not to many fighters around, so I'll LR CAP too and see what the few fighters and FB around here can do.

I'd like to hold off here for another week or two. I'll send in more AT guns too and see if that helps.

All is away at Pengpu, so the 50AV unit there will form a rear defence and be vaporised in a day or two. [;)]

Got a few days behind over the weekend, so this one will catch up to current.

An interesting test sweep by some P-47N and P-51D has them coming in at 11k against my low CAP at Ominato. That didn't really work. A low/high mix can be effective, but only low means that some can climb above them. The first sweep downed almost an entire group of P-47N, and the next was a co-operating sweep with two P-51D groups and the extra P-47N planes, and they did slightly better but still not great.

At Udon Thani about half of my bombers fly, which is annoying, as the ones that do are unopposed and very effective. The tanks only get a 1:9 and still don't lower forts. Unfortunately the LR CAP wears out too quickly and can't really stop the hundreds of Allied bombers hitting our troops. I'll bring some more down to add, and this next turn will scatter bombing to nearby units arriving as well to minimise losses from the expected LR CAP.

You're right. I've gotten to calling anything that is a stand alone entity in game a "group." I know this doesn't correspond to actual designations and configurations.

The fighter groups he is flying are indeed slightly under their max of 25 airframes. You'll get 14 sweeping, then 3 later. I attribute this to empty pools, but of course it could be flying directly after upgrades or previous battles and not having had enough time pass to be able to refill the group.

Sentai is a larger group. Daitai and Chutai are smaller parts of a larger group.

Another interesting turn here. The Allies take Nanking easily with three IDs including the 3rd and 4th Marine. This actually makes me feel like I've made the right choice. It looks like the feigned attempt to open the rail led to the Allies heading this way in force and allowing the reinforcement of Shanghai from the other side to go on unhindered. I should be able to get a few more divisions, possibly up to four, into the area, although I'm not sure I'll put them into Shanghai. I'll see how the Allies spread their forces.

I'm trying to walk a very good CD gun base force around to Hangchow. Shhhhh. [;)]

All other troops moved from Korea are at Hankow and Wuchow after railing out, and some moving down toward the Hangchow area as well as the ones moving up from the coast.

The Allies try more sweeps in the North. This time high. Hellcats are decimated, but what is surprising me (and I'm sure Dan) is that the P-51D and P-47N continue to struggle as well. They sweep Muroran, probably hoping to get some bleeding CAP in small numbers. Instead they find a massive CAP of bleeding CAP led in by radar and sitting down low in their layers. The pilots in some of these groups were just changed out to get more of the best to the China theatre. The new pilots were in the high 50s and low 60s exp levels, and they've gotten a good bump over the past few turns, with a lot of new aces and some getting to the 70s in exp. [8D]

The Allies also try a flurry of night bombing raids by fragile 1E USN/USMC bombers. The Avengers and Helldivers are harassed by NF and flak, and almost 40 are shot down or lost to flak on the day. [X(]

Down South the armoured units at Udon Thani shrug off more bombing runs and shock for a 1:1 lowering forts. It won't be long, but I'll go all in on bombing and see what I can hit anyways. The Allies send 300+ bombers on the day, and although flak limits their effectiveness, this proves the deciding factor in tipping things over the edge.

Sentai is a larger group. Daitai and Chutai are smaller parts of a larger group.

I think Daitai is a larger one for IJNAF, and Sentai - for IJAAF.
Chutai is part of the larger group, in both army and navy.

And then there is resizing

Not that I'm an expert in Japanese air group terminology, but I think both the IJAAF and IJNAF used the name Sentai for a larger group, although in the IJNAF it meant a very large group governed by an HQ Flotilla.

A Hikotai was a term for a large flight group, and Daitai, Chutai and Shotai were increasingly smaller formations.

I think you are off in your interpretation. Sweeps almost never go in coordinated so you are seeing each squadrons allotment of percentage for that sweep.
A 25 plane squadron set to 70% sweep/30% rest will not send more than 16-17 airframes on any given sortie with that degraded by pilot fatigue/airframe fatigue and morale.

I would guess the squadron that only sent 3 planes may have only had 5 operational with the others in various states of maintenance, not necessarily due to losses unreplacable due to pool limits.
