The gorn plans slowly. Can't complain though, takes me forever to get through my first few turns. Then again I play the AI, no worries about anticipation or anything in that environment. Also a bump to keep it on page one, at least for now.

And I'm thinking of doing a St Louis area summit in June when the airshow is here at Scott AFB. If anyone is interested let me know. I'd love to meet more of you.

I could be tempted, Steve, if I'm employed by then. [:(] I'm not that far away.

two cents concerning house rules:
As allied I find that night bombing of ships in port (I use 6,ooo') can be devastating. Not sure it is realistic on the results side.
Stacking can get ridiculous, I am presently engaged with IJA in Russia with a hex containing over 200 LCU. I'm guessing the divisional
frontage to be around 1/2 a mile, something on the order of the Somme?

I've returned my opening turn. I have not created new task forces. Any plan not on CAP has not been placed on CAP (some of the Brit planes were something like 30%. They've not been touched). I DID place a great many fighters on 100% CAP training. If they get caught up in the fight , so be it.

Chinese units are already at war , so most of them have begun pulling back to defendable ground. The vast majority of the CAF will pull back as soon as and far as possible , to begin intensive training. Maybe by the time the USAAF provides them decent planes , they'll be worthy of them.

Despite our agreeing on "NO RULES" , I'm basically (at the urging of Chickenboy and others) a sitting duck. Well , will see how far "trust" gets us. I have a real queasy feeling about this one.

Why be queasy? He is a Gorn playing the Japanese, he is bound to trip over his own feet and shoot him self in the tail.

Because we said "no rules" and I'm playing with what are in fact , self imposed rules.

OK , I've looked at the turn (001) and apparently Geoff decided to completely forgo the PH strike (excepting the mini-sub gambit , one of the little buggers put a fish into Pennsylvania).

He pretty much wiped out force "Z" and also caught the Boise.. He went for Houston but missed. I expect he'll kill her next turn. He did a mild strike on Singapore. But it could be difficult to evacuate Manila. I'll be holding there for now , and concentrating as much air power to defend Manila and Singapore as possible.

I can't do much right now as I've not got the turn and haven't done a good assessment. But I think he screwed, by leaving not only the forces at PH intact , but more important , the aircraft. With B-17's and PBY's I can establish pretty good air coverage. And I can put out all my subs for picket duty.

I can't say I'd have put all of my carriers in shallow , restricted waters , but I'll certainly do my best to take advantage of the situation. [:)][:)]

What's that I'm being blamed for? The Allies are a proverbial sitting duck on the first turn pretty much no matter which way you slice it.

If you'd played "December 8 start" you'd be down the POW, Repulse and the usual carnage at Pearl Harbor, Ford Island and Hickam too. Another 2 BBs sunk and several others in extremis and your repair yards clogged up good for the forseeable future. Dozens / hundreds of damaged aircraft-particularly your scarce PBYs. You got off lucky. Seems like limited Manila damage. You got off lucky there too.

Where is he invading?

Not beating up Manila and then operating in the DEI with your carriers is asking for a submarine to put a tin fish into one of your carriers. Go get 'im, Yankee dog!

In keeping with your 'everyone fights' mantra, I'd be putting those submarines to work early and often. In my game against the AI, I've had surprisingly good luck with the submarine fleet. Yes, the Mk. 14s suck and the duds are maddening. But 'even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and again'. Get enough shots off-particularly at underescorted TFs-and it'll eventually pay off.

Strongly recommend you start training up Dutch bomber pilots on "NAV" bombing. If you get 2-3 months to train them, they can really expand their effectiveness.

Whatchu doin' with the AVG?
