The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament
Match Ended
Game Over El-condoro (Axis) Vs Gilber (Allies) Allies Victory beginning of autumn 44.
The course of the game was very close to the historical reality with a last victory of the Axis in mid-42; an important encirclement of several Russian armies in Leningrad. After that the Allied numerical superiority grew steadily until the capture of Berlin.
Exciting naval battles like the ride of the U-32. U-32 had been scouring the North Atlantic for at least a month (4 turns), plundering convoys. As its supply began to dwindle it had to reach a port to refuel. The most likely hypothesis was the Norwegian coast, probably Narvik. So I gathered some destroyers to cut off her route to Norway from her last location and was lucky enough to make a first contact south of Iceland. But after this first contact U-32 managed to slip between the destroyers several times and with the help of bad weather to resist 2 more turns until finally being caught north of Iceland and finally sunk to the bottom of an Icelandic fiord. It took no less than 7 destroyers and 2 light cruisers to neutralize it.
Regular and ultra fast turns, a big thank you to El-condoro with an excellent fighting spirit who continued the fight without weakening until the taking of Berlin.

Thank you, too, Gilber. As always, your skill with this game is excellent. The KM was kept in port pretty much the whole game once I realised how dangerous the seas were with your navy clearly having broken Enigma much earlier than historically! A fun game with learning (by me) along the way. As I said in the game, thank you for shortening the war and saving all those lives.
Cheers

Tournament wrap
I think is time to wrap up the New Official Strategic Command War in Europe tournament.
Only a handful of players are still playing, most active players seem to be seeking games outside the tournament.
Accordingly, anyone who wants to start a new tournament match should do so within the next 48 hours. After that, no further tournament matches will be accepted. I will wait until the last result comes in, then I will post the final standings. I think we know who won.
Anyone who would like to start a new tournament should contact me, and I will send them the rankings spreadsheet.

Game ended Fenndon Axis Vs Gilber Allies Allies Victory Axis surrender 44
regular and pleasant games,
the moment of the changeover was in July 42 when the armoured tanks of the axis arrived at 50 km from Cairo, but they did not go further...
after that the allies by imposing a war of attrition forced the axis little by little to the defensive until the beginning of 44 when the axis was resolved to the surrender.
Thanks Fenndon, it's always a pleasure to play with you.[:)]

Game concluded: Axis (Rannug61) vs Allies (Scottydawg)
Allied decisive victory August, 1945
Truly an excellent game against a seasoned opponent. My first human opponent---this very tournament some 18 months ago---Rannug61 literally eviscerated me in this first game.
I now have gained some recompense!
I hereby demand that my initial sword of surrender be returned at once...[8D]
Thank you Rannug for an awesome match...to the very end you successfully defended your national cause.

YES...someone should further the cause. I strongly feel that another form of scoring needs to be adopted. Perhaps even using the existing Elo rankings as a basis; weak players need incentive to challenge some of our strongest adversaries (you know who you are...).
We must seek knowledge and wisdom as a fundamental element of change for this. This can only enhance the overall experience; there must exist a premise that even among the best of players, winning every time is boring---conversely if every game played ends in shattering defeat, then what's the point.
Mr. Cater and company?

Game concluded: Scottydawg (Axis) vs. Will952 (Allies)
Allied victory 10.04.1943
Very good game; one which I cannot win however.
Axis took Leningrad '41, Moscow '42, Saratov '43...plus successfully thwarted a counter-invasion of Spain. Successful landings in Normandy and Brittany in late '43, with of course withering air supremacy ended the axis march forward...ARMOR TECH 5 for the UK in mid-1943 (nice!) for these channel operations proved decisive.

if the allies succeeded in landing at the end of 43 I understand that the war was won by the axis rather in April 44. did the allies liberate Paris?
