Would you want to fight a 20th Century Naval Battle on this thing? They were very brave to sail her across the Pacific.

The Chinese cruisers should make it back to Shanghai. The repair yard there should ensure that they do not sink. I am not sure the Chinese have the gold to pay for the use of British facilities elsewhere for repairs as the USN plans to.

I have decided to make as big an effort as I can for Tsingtao. All available forces, less two Corps and an HQ heading North have been given orders to get there as soon as they can. The situation in the Southern PI is dire. Luckily LBA is not the problem here that it is in WitP so getting ships to and from Manila should not be too much of a problem. The Dutch Navy has moved it's three old BBs and four Torpedo Boats to Tarakan as a precaution against Japanese aggression spilling over into the DEI. Next turn I will highlight the French Squadron as Dixie's artwork for them is superb...

Huron watch: 99/79/4 with one hex to go. She has orders to auto disband, so hopefully the flooding will be dealt with quickly. Then it will be a case of trying to get her back to the US in one piece.

As promised: The French Cruiser Squadron:

And the flagship. These ships are the best European ships currently in theatre. All European nations are still neutral. Martin and I are talking through situations where they may become active.

The Royal Navy is about to re-inforce Singapore. There are subs on the way too. There are two V&W DDs at HK and 6 (R class I think) at Colombo. I am moving SEAC HQ to Calcutta. Do you think I'd be better off moving it to Singapore?

Martin has got LCUs as far as Mukden in China. I'll post some more about that as the situation develops.

The only thing on the combat report last turn was an Allied bombardment at Davao. Martin has 4 transports (yeah, like that's all he has) offshore unloading supplies, but I have nothing that can get there in time to interfere. I am posting a shot of the now disbanded Huron. I have too few 20 knot cruisers so she will be making a very long journey back to the US for eventual repair. Reinforcements have started unloading at Midway. Two further units and a lot of supplies are on the way. The Pacific Fleet is still about two days from PH, but will be sent to Midway to (hopefully) forestall another quick invasion.

The ANZAC squadron are on their way to their Forward Operating Base. Will they be too vulnerable to a surprise attack there? He could easily concentrate enough force to overwhelm them as the biggest guns they have are 12 inch. It would bring the RN in to the war, but they are not really a big threat until the leading elements of the Home Fleet arrive (The Battle Cruisers and a squadron of 13.5 inch Dreadnoughts).

Little Trouble in Big China

Post by goodboyladdie »

The developing situation in China. I am hamstrung by the lack of mobile forces. He did not attack at Mukden last turn, so he either forgot, or he only has light forces deployed in that theatre so far. I believe he did not have much more than a construction battalion availabe at Port Arthur at the start and has committed a lot of forces to the PI and Wake Island. The two damaged CLs are docked and repairing. The forces to attack Tsingtao are arriving. A Division is already there and deploying. The US RCT should arrive tomorrow and a Corps is not far away.

What do the colored dots represent next to some of the bases? Is one color for port and another for an airfield?

This is Subchaser's map adapted for WPO by Helpless. The coloured dots represent resources present and also repair yards. I'll post a screenie of the key tomorrow morning. You have the turn, btw.

Huron is now at 99/73. All fires are finally out. RN submarines are being deployed to Hong Kong. Two, including the steam powered K boat will patrol offshore. L1 and L2 will lay defensive minefields.

Two USAAS base forces are being evacuated from Manila. The 104th will be deployed to China to begin the task of establishing the reserve base. The 101st is going to Darwin to assist in the buidling of another forward operating base for ANZAC surface and submarine forces. The goodwill thus earned here and at Rabaul will allow Brisbane to be used for the assembly in area of forces attached to the new South West Pacific Command.

Here is the promised map key Mike.

Not a lot happening. I have tfs out from Shanghai looking for trouble, but for the last three turns they haven't found any. I have a bombardment tf on it's way to Lingayen. Huron is now 99/66. Some LCUs from Shanghai are about to arrive in Hong Kong to beef up the defences. Supplies are being sent to Dutch Harbor and Anchorage. Hopefully the US Pacific Fleet will arrive at PH next turn.

Naga fell this turn and the Allies bombarded the Japanese at Davao, causing light casualties.

Edit: I forgot that Martin had one of his planes spot one of my subs near Tainan. It is the first time we have had an air report. I have two air units due at PH in about four turns. I'll post details when they arrive. I am considering sending the fighter unit from Singapore to Hong Kong. I think I am probably better off training it where it is for now.

Seeing as I am allowed to post in here....
ORIGINAL: Message sent via British Embassy in Tokyo

[font="Courier New"]11th June 1922
It is with great outrage that the Japanese government is reporting the illegal actions of the American Navy in the current Phillipnes Emergency. Contrary to current international law an unidentified American submarine did, without warning torpedo an unescorted Japanese merchant vessel. No effort was made to inform the ship, or ensure the safety of her crew the crew were only saved by the arrival of a nearby destroyer which managed to drive off the American vessel. The piratical actions of the American military in their use of unrestricted submarine warfare will be met with in kind. Effective immediatly the Imperial Japanese Navy reserves the right to engage all merchant vessels of the USA without prior warning.
