RE: RHSEBO Test 11E vs PDavis: Pearl Harbor II
18 Ki-48s caused 29 casualties and 2 guns lost to the 27th Guerilla Regiment.
7 Ju-88s and 20 Ki-51s caused 17 casualties, 2 guns lost and 1 vehicle lost to the 9th Division field artillery regiment. 17 Japanese casaltis, 2 guns and 1 vehicle lost.
Two dozen Ki-27s caused 7 casualties to the remnant of the RAF No 2 Forward Air Station which retreated into Thailand.
3 B-10s missed an AK at Ban Don Thailand.
4 SB2U-2s and 8 SBDs put a thousand pound bomb into CVL Chitose - withdrawing from Lahaina with battle damage. 6 of her 12 Zeros were covering her - and 3 of the tormenters were shot down - and a 4th was damaged - but it was not good enough. She will survive - but must go back to Lahaina to fight fires and flooding. She is the only IJN carrier seriously enegaged so far in this war.
5 Blenheims raided Singora - 3 were shot down by a dozen fighters of two types on CAP - and the rest bugged out.
3 Blenheims missed an AK in the Gulf of Thailand.
3 more missed an AP later in the same area.
2 Ki-51s - flying out of Legaspi - put a small bomb (100 pounds = 3 x 15 kg bombs) into AK Legazpi - in the Visayas. They were escorted by Ki-27s that were not needed.
3 Ju-88s from the same place put no less than 8 bombs into DD Scout moving South along the West side of Luzon. She got hit by a later recon plane - but sank near the end of the turn - overcome by fires or flooding or both.
The CVE force - sailing along the North shore of Celebes to cut off a force lost to recon - sent 13 bomb armed Kates back where it had just come - to put four 250 kg bombs into AK Fortuna at Menado. It sank later in the turn.
17 Ki-21s based forward at Singora put 2 fifty kg bombs into AK Kampar at Georgetown. 2 Buffalos on CAP were ineffective.
15 Ki-48s put 2 bombs into a AK Prome - sinking her at Rangoon - and missed AK Mandalay. These are tiny river cargo ships.
A Dutch raid out of Jolo of 5 B-10s and 2 Buffalos raided Cagayn - met 9 Zeros on CAP - and failed to score. 2 bombers destroyed.
5 SBDs out of PH raided KB which is SW of PH. 4 were shot down by 67 Zeros, 6 Petes and 35 Me-109s on CAP. KB is here covering an inbound major convoy with a division of troops.
5 Blenheims missed an AP at Ban Don Thailand.
3 B-17s missed AV Sanuki Maru in the South China Sea. Surprisingly 4 Petes wer on CAP - surprising because Sanuki Maru class AV are NOT supposed to fly UNLESS they are at a dot location or port - not at sea. Apparently ALL IJN AVs fly at sea.
9 Vildebeeste - which I hate - torpedoed AK Nihonkai Maru near the coast of Indochina - a long range strike.
I-7 attacked and missed a DMS at Diamond Harbor. A PC in company missed her in turn.
Bad weather prevented strikes on KB - which wer massive - out of Soc Trang Indochina. This contributed to a second debacle there - no odds were achieved in general attack - 325 casualties, 36 guns lost, 8 vehicles lost in a combined arms assault. 23 000 Japanese engaging 20 000 Allies.
This was repeated at Alor Star - which WAS hit by less massive air strikes out of Singora. Bit casualties were light - 19 Japanese and 1 gun lost vs 20 Allies and 2 guns lost. 5700 Japanese attacked 3400 Allies - not sure why so few Japanese attacked?
An attack on that retreating Forward Air Station on the Khra Isthmus by a rapidly advancing demi brigade of armor achieved 48:1 odds for 7100 troops vs only 334 - 10 Japanese casualties - 46 Allied casualties and 2 guns lost - and continuing retreat which STILL blocks the rail line.
Allied bombardment at Davao was ineffective.
Airborne assault captured undefended Prome Burma.

RE: Early engagement
From our third day of the war.
"BB Maryland and BB West Virgina attacked KB itself at Lahaina. THey had CL Detroit and 4 famous USN DD in company (Blue, Helm, Mugford and Ralph Talbot), KB had 4 Fujimoto class BB, CA Tone, CL Kitakami, 8 DD and 6 CV. This battle lasted an hour of replay time, the longest I ever saw - and was mostly at long and medium range - but eventually closed to torpedo range. Only BB Maryland survived on the Allied side, and she took 102 hits, some from 16.1 inch shells, although she was not heavily damaged. These two BB were very tough - and only 2 torpedoes plus 94 other hits - some 16.1 inch - doomed West Virginia. The 4 DD took 70 hits. CL Detroit - ancient and poor by modern standards - took 52 more. All the Japanese ships except the carriers sharred 122 hits - 2 DD were sunk - 3 DD took heavy damage - BB Haruna and Hiei set on fire - 2 more DD set on fire. In spite of the outcome - the Allied force did make the correct effort - and only luck prevented catastrophic damage to the vulneable and invaluable carriers. "
Looking back I ask the forum members if it is worth the effort to go after the KB/invasion force early? Sid did comment to me that I have lost 5 ships to his one. The unknown is what is his damage level to the fleet and can he sustain the damage and continue ops?
As the allied player I have no experience in the game so I have no feel of the ebb and flo,
when I can push and when I should run.

RE: Early engagement
Actually - you are doing rather well. Consider Malaya - only Singora has fallen after two weeks - and two full fledged attack on Kota Bahru and Alor Star have both failed - no one ever did that before. The invasion of Hawaii is at least a week behind plan. And more heavy ships need repairs than have ever been caused by experienced players - so much so that three BB are just arriving in the Central Pacific - to take up the slack - and they will not be able to do anything in any other area while they are so far away. You also held the big island entirely - no one ever did that so long either.
Your play has been more historical than most - if you made moves that seem foolish in 20-20 hindsight - the historical commanders are likely to have made the same or similar moves on the same dates. If your play on Luzon is not going to help it hold out long - it is almost a perfect repeat of MacArthur's choices - abandon Baguio entirely - hole up on Bataan. Not the way I would do it - but you are not me.
You have learned how to use submarines and mines offensively - and are tied for second place as the most skilled player I have ever seen with them - only polynik is better - and that is high praise. The other person tied for second is Scot McConnachie - a veteran gamer who also has decades of experience playing WITP against me in some form or other.
There is this one tiny problem: a thread like this one is not supposed to be read by the opponent - as it is used to disclose "secrets" before they happen. But as this is a training game - it may be better if you can learn from the other side's point of view.
And - for the record - you are sinking more Japanese ships than is normal for the first month of the war. I often lose none at all - or almost none.

17 Dec 1941 (Hawaii) 18 Dec (Tokyo/Manila time)
The night turn began with mineclearing at HK.
Dutch old sub KCII torpedoed AP Hakutetsu Maru in the South China Sea - 98 casualties and 2 vehicles lost.
A different old Dutch sub - KXIV - shelled and torpedoed AK Tonegawa Maru.
Later 3 DD attacked this same sub - but missed.
DD Voyager detected a minefield at PM - without hitting any mines.
3 IJN DD attacked but missed SS Tautog at Lahaina. She laid mines - as you will see.
DD Maury missed I-169 near Hawaii.
I-26 torpedoed AO Ramapo NE of Oahu. 3 escorts counterattacked but missed.
Ro-49 torpedoed, shelled AK Taiping South of Singapore.
Later the same sub torpedoed the same AK again - sinking her.
I-6 missed DMS Bahurst at Sydney - but was hit 3 times by counterattacks form PC Marrawah.
An AK - badly damaged from earlier battles - flooded out and sank at Lahaina. Two ships detected mines there - by hitting them - from that pesky sub we saw the night before. DD Hakutetsu Maru sunk, DD Yayoi and AP Teiryu Maru damaged.
I-21 put two torpedoes into DD Voyager at PM - sinking her. CA Houston, CL Westralia, CL Perth and CA Canberra detected there!!!

RE: RHSEBO Test 11E vs PDavis: Pearl Harbor II
The day turn began with a massive attack on Pucheng China - 22 resource hits.
6 Blenheims escorted by 5 Buffalos raided Ban Don Thailand - met 6 Oscars on CAP. 1 Buffalo shot down and the rest of the Allied planes gave up.
7 more tried again - and gave up just from being shot at. These must be tired planes.
28 Zeros swept Georgetown Malaya - met 1 Buffalo on CAP - and shot it down.
16 Ki-21s, 95 Zeros and 2 Ki-46 recon planes hit Clark. 2 bombers lost. No CAP but 1 P-43 destroyed on the ground. 20 casualties, 1 gun lost, 24 other hits.
23 Kates, 2 Vals and 8 Zeros raided PH (from KB). No CAP. Four hits by 800 kg bombs: AV Curtiss, AVD Thornton, AK Royal T Frank, CL Helena. 1 port hit 1 Val and 10 Kates shot down, 3 Kates damaged.
8 Ki-49s, 7 Ki-48s and 11 Me-109s (from Lahaina) hit KB immediately afterward. Still no cap. 1 P-36 destroyed on the ground (I guess). One 50 kg bomb hit on AR Pyro and one on AO Sepulga. 9 casualties, 1 gun lost, 8 airbase related hits.
3 B-10s failed to harm the 56th Independent Infantry Brigade at Davao.
3 Swordfish failed to harm the 18th (Motorized) Division at Alor Star.
6 B-17s did better - causing 12 casualties.
A JAAF attack caused 10 casualties to the 50th Guerilla Regiment in China.
Another caused 52 casualties to the Red 15th Guerilla Regiment.
59 Ki-21s caused 81 casualties and 2 guns lost to the 28th Gurkha Brigade in Malaya.
3 Ansons missed CA Maya near New Britain. They repeated this later, with one shot down on both occasions.
KB sent a large strike against DD Hull, DM Gamble and DM Montgomery - sinking them all NE of Oahu. Many ships are running NE and E from Oahu - too bad for them.
Later KB found and sank CA San Francisco in a nearby hex.
Later still - in yet a different hex - Vals put 8 bombs into DM Preble and AO Ramapo.
12 Kates followed up - scoring 8 more hits with 250 kg bombs - these being from a CVL.
22 Ki-48s put 11 bombs into the Mandalay Dhou Group at Rangoon.
13 Bettys at long r ange put 4 bombs into 2 AKs at Alor Star - and missed a third. 21 troop casualties to troop cargo.
8 Videbeeste tried to attack ships in the Gulf of Thailand. They met 2 Ki-27s on CAP - and gave up. They must be tired.
1 Ki-27 and 3 Vildebeeste damaged.
4 Dutch B-10s escorted by 13 Buffalos ran in on CLAA Yubari at Singora. 9 Ki-43s and 4 Petes on CAP. 1 Pete shot down. 3 bombers shot down - some by Yubari.
Late in the day KB put 9 bombs into PC Taney and AVD Swan NE of Oahu.
17 Ki-21s and 11 Ki-43s put a bomb into CL De Duyter in the Malacca Strait. Her AA was very effective. 2 bombers destroyed, 4 damaged.
6 Ki-48s put a small bomb into TK Augustina at Alor Star.
6 Ki-21s put a bomb into SO Spirila and missed AS Wuchang in the Malacca Strait.
S-36 missed an AK in Philippine waters.
Japanese bombardment on a force in China caused 9 casualties.
Undefended Baguio City fell to 65th Brigade - a bad mistake - this is a very hard position to take - and a rich one.
Japanese bombardment at Alor Star was ineffective.
Japnaese bombardment at Kota Bahru caused 21 Allied casualties.
Allied bombardment at Davao was ineffective.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11E vs PDavis: building up for the next round
Paul continues to demonstrate his mastery of submarine warfare and he is demonstrating that defense of Northern Malaya is entirely feasible.
18 Dec 1941 (Hawaii) 19 Dec (Far East)
The night turn began with Dutch sub KXIV shelling, torpedoing and sinking TK Akane Maru NE of Brunei. She had fled to evade a different sub at Brunei - for all the good it tid her.
AP Katrura Maru hit a mine at Lahaina - 15 casualties and 1 gun lost to troop cargo
I-25 torpedoed already damaged DD Worden at PH - she was returning from the slaughter by KB aircraft the day before. She didn't sink immediately - but cannot be in good shape - or she would not have returned to this beleaguered port which hardly has supplies to spare for fixing ships that can get somewhere else. I expect to see her on the sunk list in due course.
CA Maya and CA Chokai - with CL Kumano in her original 6 inch gun form - and 6 DD - did a run in on Rabaul to bombard. They met CL Adelaide - already damaged - and sank her with 27 hits. 2 were 8 inch, one was 3 inch, and all the rest from Kumano's 6.1 inch battery - 15 guns in 5 triples - superb in night action at 5000 yards. The bombardment destroyed 2 Ansons and a Catalina on the ground, caused 120 casualties, 1 gun lost and 2 vehicles lost to ground units, and 43 other hits to airbase and port targets. The pair of six inch CD guns were silent.
Continuing landings at Rabaul cost 22 casualties to IJA troops of the Nanyo (South Seas) Detachment/144th Regimental Combat Team.
6 IJN DD missed Dutch sub KXV at Brunei - the fear of which had sent ships to sea - resulting in the sinking of the tanker above.
I-7 put 3 fish into the Mandalay Dhou Group at Rangoon.
I-21 missed AK Straat Malak at PM. Counterattacks by an AK (!!) and SC failed to hit her in reply.
Ro-42 attacked and missed an ASW boat unit - OJR-1 and OJR-2 - at Tillitjap. The ASW unit missed Ro-42 in reply.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11E vs PDavis: building up for the next round
The day turn began with a massive attack on Pucheng China - causing 33 resource hits.
8 Blenheim Is failed to do any damage to Ban Don Thailand. 5 Dutch Buffalos escorted them.
7 Blenheim IF night fighters failed to do damage immediately after. These attacks probably occurred without recon the day before.
23 Nells out of Truk destroyed another Anson at Rabaul (2 were lost to night naval bombardment) - and caused 17 more airbase related hits. No Japanese losses.
A high altitude raid on the bases at Lahaina failed to do damage. 19 B-18s flew in at over 32 000 feet altitude - their effective ceiling -
and 2 A-20s and 3 B-18s came with them not quite as high. I saw lots of "too high" messages - for the first time. Still - a high squadron of Me-109s on top cover managed to kill 2 B-18s and 2 A-20s - driving the other B-18 away. One Me got damaged in the effort.
3 B-10s and 2 Dutch Buffalos out of Jolo failed to harm the 56th Independent Infantry Brigade at Davao.
6 B-17s out of Palembang caused 29 casualties, 1 gun lost and 1 vehicle lost to the 18th (Motorized) Division. [A Japanese "motorized" division should be called "semi-motorized" - as half its transport elements are draft]
34 Claudes of the Ki-33 JAAF sort failed to harm the Kwangtung 65th Field Army in China.
17 Nells out of Formosa caused 15 casualties to the Philippine Army 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment at Loaog.
34 Ki-27s out of Bangkok caused 26 casualties to the RAF No 2 Forward Air Station - which is retreating to Victoria Point - and in spite of many attacks - likely to make it - from which point it might be evacuated. It began the war at Tavoy - and retreated into Thailand - where until yesterday it blocked the main RR down the Kra Isthmus.
2 Ansons out of Rabaul - they are not all destroyed - missed CA Chokai at Kavieng. 4 Petes on CAP failed to deter them.
6 Hudsons defied 12 Zeros and 2 Petes on CAP at Cagayan - to run in on, attack and miss CLAA Ioshima and AK Alaska Maru. No losses to either side.
2 USMC SBD-3s out of PH ran in on KB - met 54 fighters on CAP - and bugged out after one SBD was shot down.
3 Dutch B-10s missed AP Iwaki Maru in the Gulf of Thailand.
20 Ki-48s put 5 bombs into 2 AKs in the Malacca Strait. 92 casualties and 4 guns lost to troop cargo.
15 Nells put 5 torpedoes into 2 transports at Georgetown (AP Van Rees and AK Togian). They missed AK Reteh altogether.
28 Zeros swept Georgetown - met 2 Buffalos on CAP - and everyone went home OK. Pretty impressive showing by the Buffalos - who engaged for many rounds without getting hurt.
4 Vildebeeste missed CA Aoba at Singora. Escorted by 6 Buffalos, they met 9 Ki-43s and 3 Petes on CAP. 1 Buffalo and 1 Vildebeeste were shot down - and 2 Vildebeeste were damaged.
16 Ki-21s and 7 Ju-88s - escorted by 3 Ki-43s - put 2 bombs into AK Lematang and 3 more into AP Van Rees at Georgetown - but could not find AK Togian - which may have already sunk by torpedo hits (see three items above).
Later 3 Ju-88s put 3 bombs into AK Kampar at the same location. One of these was 250 kg, the others were 50 kg.
26 Ki-51s - escorted by 12 Ki-43s - put 11 small 100 pound bombs into CL De Ruyter. [Each represents three 15 kg bombs] 2 Ki-51s destroyed, 3 damaged by the very effective AA of this ship - which has DP six inch guns.
12 Ki-21s put two 50 kg bombs into AK Bantam at Malacca.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11E vs PDavis: building up for the next round
6 IJN DD again failed to hit Dutch sub KXV at Brunei.
Japanese bombardment East of Wuchow was ineffective - but revealed a weak Chinese force of 13 000 vs the 34 000 Japanese in the hex.
Japanese bombardment at Manila was ineffective.
Japanese bombardment at KB caused 24 casualties and 1 gun lost.
Allied bombardment in reply caused 2 casualties and 1 gun lost.
Allied bombardment at Alor Star caused 33 Japanese casualties - and 6 Allied casualties and 2 guns lost.
Allied bombardment at Davao caused 2 Japanese casualties.
Ground assault at Loaog caused the Philippine Army 3/12th battalion to surrender - it had no retreat option. 448 Allied casualties and 4 guns lost.
Airborne assault at Meiktila revealed 892 troops in the hex = 7 Japanese casualties - 1 Allied casualty and 1 gun lost. This is a base support unit.
Airborne assault at Toungoo revealed 446 troops in the hex - 7 Japanese casualties. This also is a base support unit.
Both these hexes are supply sources and on the main rail LOC - so it is well to deny the enemy the ability to use them for supplies or to retreat. We may be able to take them by determined airborne assult - if enough troopers remain. If they are smart - they will run.

BR learned the offensive mines are an effective weapon when you're outgunned playing UV. He's a fast learner and isn't prone to making the same mistake twice.

19 December 1941 (Hawaii) 20 December (Far East)
The night turn began with 2 DD detecting mines at Lahaina - but not hitting them.
Later a DE also detected the same field - and didn't hit either.
An unidentified unit attacked Dutch sub KXVII in the Gulf of Thailand
Later in the night she torpedoed AP Nachisan Maru in that same force.
Badly damaged DD Maury missed I-13 in the South Pacific.
ASW boats OJR-1 and 2 missed Ro-42 at Tillitjap. They repeated this again later.
7 escorts from a transport TF attacked and got one nit on Dutch KXIII in the Gulf of Thailand
Landings at Kona cost 134 and then 8 casualties.
I-6 attacked and missed USN DD Stuart in Hawaiian waters.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11E vs PDavis: building up for the next round
The day turn began with 33 Ki-33 (Army Claudes) attacking ROC 5th War Area HQ - not sure why it is forward??
26 casualties.
15 B-17s out of Palembang put a bomb into already damaged RTN AK Anthong in port at Singora. Drat.
Also one port hit. 6 Ki-43s on local CAP and 6 Zeros on LRCAP damaged 3 B-17s.
23 Nells scored 7 runway hits at Rabaul. 1 was lost.
18 Ki-48s caused 63 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Red 27th Guerilla Regiment - unsually good shooting vs a small unit.
17 Ki-51s caused 33 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Indian Army 44th Brigade at KB.
6 Vildebeeste missed 2 DD at Singora. 2 were damaged by the 12 planes on CAP (noted above).
Later 6 B-10s almost repeated this process - they came in with 10 Buffalos escort - and 1 of those was shot down. So was one Zero. 2 bombers damaged.
3 B-10s missed an AP in the Gulf of Thailand.
22 Ki-21s out of Brunei put 18 fifty kg bombs into AK Bonketoe at Banka Island.
36 ROCAF bombers of 2 types caused 15 casualties and 2 guns lost to airfield defense troops at Hankow/Wuhan. Also 9 air base related hits. 8 Ki-27s on CAP. No escorts but 1 Ki-27 destroyed. 2 bombers damaged. Good job ROCAF.
Still (unwisely) flying out of Rabaul - 2 Ansons missed an AO near New Hannover Island.
5 Vildebeese "went downtown" to Saigon - putting a bomb into AK Koki Maru - and missing another AK. No CAP. Got to fix that. I hate the Vildebeeste - regarded by most players as ineffective - it is ugly (a biplane) - but effective.
The detached high speed wing of KB found DM Montgomery far NE of Oahu - and put her under with 4 bomb hits (Vals were the all time ship killer of history). Not sure if any more ships are left of the force that tried to flee? But we will find out.
Flying out of Singora, the only base we have in Malaya, 13 Ki-43s escorted 12 Ju-88s and 20 Ki-21s vs 4 AKs and a TK fleeing South down the Malacca Strait (from the slaughter in Malay ports yesterday). They put 12 bombs total into all 5 targets - AK Poelau badly damaged by half of the bombs - AK Reteh also set on fire.

I-10 - at the SW tip of Australia - put two fish into AK Empire Moorhen - and will try to intercept if she makes for Darwin tomorrow. She is probably going to flood out or burn out.
20 casualties to landings at Phuket Thailand.
22 000 combined arms troops did a deliberate attack at KB - strongly supported by air raids. In spite of 23 000 defenders, 2:1 odds achieved, and the defenders retreated. 15 aircraft destroyed on the ground. 7384 Allied casualties, 3 guns lost and 4 vehicles lost. 253 IJA casualties, 9 guns lost and 8 vehicles lost. Attackers not demoralized so they will take up the chase tomorrow. The logjam has broken in Northern Malaya.
4700 Japanese army and navy troops attacked a reinforced force at Rabaul - unusually he added the New Guinea Volunteer Regiment to the party. 6 aircraft destroyed on the ground. 1327 Allied casualties, 3 guns lost, 31 vehicles lost. 71 Japanese casualties and 5 guns lost. Lark Force Battalion and the NGVR both retreated down the New Britain trail system. Reinforcing didn't buy him much time here.
Japanese bombardment in China on the main LOC caused 18 Chinese casualties.
Japanese bombardment at Manila was ineffective.
A deliberate attack at Davao failed to achieve odds - in spite of 5900 to 3400 - due to supplies probably. 194 Japanese casualties and 5 guns lost to 19 Filipino casualties. We are sending in the naval forces from Cagayan to back up the brigade.
Japanese bombardment at Alor Star caused 3 Allied casualties. We will see if the air power hammer permits success here tomorrow.
Allied bombardment at Alor star caused 11 Japanese casualties and 1 gun lost.
A strange dual battle in South China: 7000 Japanese reservists attacked 10 000 Chinese - got 1:1 odds - and failed to take the hex. 35 Japanese casualties and 4 guns lost and 70 Chinese casualties. Then 7000 of those same Chinese attacked - got 2:1 odds - and drove the Japanese back to the border!! 16 Japanese casualties and 1 gun lost. No Chinese casualties. I never saw a battle like that before.
An amazingly weak Brigade of 2000 attacked a composite airborne and ground infantry battalion of 656 at Prome - driving the Japanese back with 29 casualties, 1 gun lost, and 1 vehicle lost. The retreat route from Rangoon is still blocked.

A Japanese shock attack on 2 Field Armies on the road LOC West of Nanking achieved 1:1 odds. 52 Japanese casualties, 3 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost. 162 Chinese casualties and 4 guns lost. The ratio indicates these untis are low on supplies - as they should be. They did not retreat - which is hard for them to do - so more troops are en route to reopen this LOC.
34 000 Japanese attacked 13 000 Chinese east of Wuchow with no fort - and failed to achieve odds. 296 Japanese casualties and 10 guns lost. 128 Allied casualties and 10 gun lost as well. The ground combat system is wierd. They may have been in good supply.

FM Molotov:
A ship (field glasses say the name looks like Sakahlinska) has been spotted at Pearl Harbor.
Regardless of wether it is bringing in troops, evacuating troops, or landing supplies or even fuel, to go to a port under active blockade is reckless and illegal. It is amazing the ship was not sunk inbound - but it almost certainly will be sunk when leaving.
Should this report be interpreted to mean the USSR has decided to enter into a state of hostilities with the Empire of Japan? If not - how do you justify being engaged in trade in an active war zone with an enemy of Japan? And what do you proposed to do when the ship is sunk?

A small naval party that had flown in (there is no longer a friendly airfield in the area) captured undefended Bassein Burma - giving a retreat path to a unit blocking the RR LOC N from Rangoon - and adding local supplies to the friendly forces in the area. We will try to recapture the airfield farther up the line.
Chinese troops have moved into NE China - so we will refocus to eject them.

USSR entry
As a novice allied player I am not sure it is a good Idea to get the russians involved VS the Japs. Can the IJA push the russians around early? I ask the readers for their opinions.
