Greece
As mentioned before, while France is dying in the West, the Hellenic Republic is also targeted by the Axis war machine.
On the first impulse, Italy chose a Naval, while the Germans on the border waited.
On the second impulse, with Fine Weather, Italy chose a Land, and Germany and Italy declared war on Greece. Amazingly no reaction to the DOW by the US. At this point the Axis is feeling everything is falling into plan.
With surprise in hand, a large CW fleet has to sit idle in reaction to the attack on Greece. About the only good news was the fact that the Luftwaffe Ju88 missed in its ground strike on the 4-4 MTN unit guarding the northern approaches to Athens. As a result, the German mechanized forces would not elect to attack the MTN unit, and the only combats were the invasions. Italy landed DIVs at two different hexes flanking Athens, plus one of the minor ports in southern Greece. The CW TRSs are out of position, and theoretically they could only land one TERR without HQ support, so conservatively, they decide not to put any effort into reinforcing Greece. All of the invasions are automatics.
In response, the CW moves the 4-4 MTN back towards the capital to try and cover an exposed hexside. At this point, we see the situation prior to the Axis's 3rd impulse where they will ignore the MTN unit and attack Athens from NW and SE with Naval bombardment support. The CW also throws in ground support from the carriers in the East Med.
The result of the battle is the capture of Athens by Italian troops!
On the ensuing Allied impulse, with the country about to fall, and no way to evac the MTN corps, it conducts a suicide attack at negative odds. This heroic action results in the first Axis loss in the European war, an Italian broken down DIV, as well as the loss of the MTN corps.
