Isn't this just an updated Campaign Series? Not that there's anything wrong with that ...

Hi Cpt. Cruft,

I've not been able to buy this 'yet', but from the information provided by the company, it is a new system incorporating elements from both the Panzer Campaigns and Squad Battles's game systems. The scale is supposed to be somewhere between the two.

Not (as you say) that there is anything wrong with Panzer Campaigns anyway. [:)]

It looks OK, actually. Certainly a great improvement in that it's obviously (at last!) designed for decent resolution WS. The counters are great, good art combined with NATO symbols.

As rosseau says, hard to go back to the old stuff.

I've played with it for a few days now. The game plays quite similar to squad battles imo. I feel they should have used this opportunity to make some significant improvements. The UI is still really inefficient, and makes you do a lot more work than necessary even for basic operations. It could also show more information at once, both on the counters and things like line of sight, weapon range, movement range etc.

If you can accept that it's a game with historical flair and not trying to be realistic, it is totally ok to play. With 30 minute turns, realistic combat would give long range guns an unrealistic advantage being able to massacre opponents in the open before they could move to cover. They would need to move to a real time or semi-real time system like Flashpoint Campaigns for realistic combat results to work well I think.

real time..spit cough puke..no thanks. Now WEGO yes please. Actually I mentioned WEGO to Dave Freer..he said he'd have loved to do WEGO but it was beyond the engine.

I actually love the new series. For me it's their best series yet.

What do you think of the realism between a game like this and Command Ops?

I realise that it is apples and oranges with one being RT and one turn based, but which do you personally feel is able to better represent combat?

Also, has anyone had any experience of HPS games 'Decisive Action' or 'Point of Attack 2'?

Obviously due to the realtime nature I'd say CO would be more realistic. I think CO has less abstractions than PB.

As for POA2..a required taste as is DA.

My 50cent:

The Best JTS Title since Red Victory. Great Gameplay, very tricky Scenarios, even in the Tutorial you can loose the Game, if you are careless.

So far the best Fun i had 2014.

Tiller has been making virtually the same game since the beginning. He should reinvest some of his profits (I assume he's making a profit of some kind) and code a WEGO engine. Then he would really have something. As it is his games are just board games with hidden movement.

I prefer his board game approach as opposed to the wego system. I actually like seeing and moving all my units and seeing what all happens to them. Even in wego you have to watch it (the replays) too many times to see all of what happens. I don't really care for it. So, I hope Tiller keeps the IgoUgo system for a very long time. I can deal with opportunity fire but not wego.

And you don't do that already watching your opponents turn?

Nope, I'm busy thinking up my opportunistic tactics as he plays out his turn. Everything he does gives me a new strategic or tactical idea to use. Wego is just a long and drawn out version of his move I have to watch over n over instead of in a timed and paused manner like IgoUgo. Too much animation involved, not necessary. Just get back to chits and die that's all one needs if they are a true wargamer.

I have been messing with a PanzerBlitz graphic update for Panzer Battles.

I did tabs for carrying and transporting too. Plus I made a wreak counter and changed the counter to a board like
style and modified the colors :)
