Railroad Tycoon 2, Civil War Generals 2, Sid Meier's Gettysburg, Europa Universalis III/IV.. just depends on the mood.
I've actually lost a lot of interest in all video games here lately, and I don't think I'll get the interest back in anything other than EUIII/IV (I play with my brother online), RRT2 (played that since it came out, and its the best computer game made in my lifetime), and AE... and I barely have time for those anyways.
I prefer to hunt, fish, golf, play with my wife, and encourage my wife to wrestle with me more.

Life is tough. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be.

Well depending on mood and how much time I can play, fairly I play Skyrim as a necromancer and Distant Worlds. I didn't want to get back in WitP:AE til I get my maps done.
I just starting playing Master of Orion III, and see if I can break it. Its a pretty hard game on medium setting along with 8 civilians on a huge 3-arms galaxy. Crossed off X's so this game would be sandbox, love playing the aliens, the Ithikuls :p
Used to spend WAY too much time playing MOO II. I tried MOO III but it didn't have the same simplicity of design and I missed that.
Would like to play another conquer the universe game at some point. Ideally turn based without the seemingly ubiquitous real-time elements (other than a bit of combat replay) where I can develop civilizations and terraform worlds, design my own ships, etc.
Any good new ones out there?

Number 3 is coming out, or already came out. I own 2, but haven't played it.
For a board game like this, try Twilight Imperium or Eclipse. If you can find 2-5 other people willing to devote an entire day to one game...

I think we all need a recharge from Ops reports and the strain of command - what games do you guys do for a mental 'cold beer'?
AH's Squad Leader (orig) 4 panel scenario. Got to love those LOS rules!!!
or... AH's MIDWAY

I have a friend who's been obsessing over 'The Operational Art of War" and the Napoleonic battles covered by it. He's been trying to draw me back into it along with some other friends. He may succeed eventually in starting a multiplayer game. But he's also been obsessing over the available version of Waterloo where if you choose to play just the Waterloo battle, the casualties from Quatre Bras and Wavre are not represented. Thus you begin the battle with pristine units that have suffered no casualties. Oh, the horror!

Loved those games - especially TF1942! I wish it was patched to run on modern windows op sys.

Combat Mission (Battle for Normandy, Fortress Italy & Red Thunder)
Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm
World of Tanks xBox 360 (my guilty pleasure [:'(])
I'm going to get Command: Modern Air/Naval Ops this week since it's on sale.
I used to play soccer in a men's competative league, but a ruptured achilles tendon and a severe case of the mid-40's has forced my retirement. [:@]

I've always liked the EU series of games - I'm in the credits for EU2. For EU4, just put the speed on slowest, sit back and every now and then go tweak something.
Also Skyrim - enjoy just exploring the world and its way cool graphics.
For totally mindless - Sid Maier's Pirates - my goal is to marry the most beautiful governor's daughter I can find!
And for old times, the original Railroad Tycoon (1989) running in a DosBox. Never got into the successors to that game.

I've done GalCiv 1 and 2 before, and look forward to #3. If it's got a good ship design system, I'm in.
I'm at the point where I usually wait a while before buying a game (CWII was an exception) as 1) it'll be cheaper and 2) most of the bugs will be zapped. I got burned with HOI 1 and 2 before I figured that out.
Cheers,
CC

Call of duty shooter games.
RE: OT: What games do you do for a mental break from AE?
I loved playing the original Rome Total War back in the day - apart from WITP my all time fave, especially using some of the realism mods that people developed for it. I have tried RTW II but imo they have ruined the franchise. It may have better graphics but gameplay is inferior in most other respects.
Pride of Nations is an interesting game covering the rise of empires in the Victorian era, a subject that has not often found its way into a game. You get to ship a lot of cool-looking units around Asia-Pacific as you build up your empire so in a way its a precurser to WITP!
I enjoyed Fallout 2 and Skyrim, of course.
Based on Commander Cody's comment, I'm going to check out Gal Civ 2 as I've wanted to play a space strategy game for a while now but wasn't sure which one to pick.

I play WITPAE as a break from a couple of John Tiller Games, France 14 & Eat Prussia 14. The start of WW1 at Battalion/Company level.
My rate of play is about 1 game day in 7 real life days.

Excluding card games (solitaire and poker), currently not playing anything other than WitPAE, but last year I was playing Distant Worlds a lot.
I see in their mod section that someone has released a Star Trek - Picard Era mod, so when the 2.0 version comes out, I may just have to load all that up again to give it a test drive.

I love these games. They are the same for tactical scale WWII games what WitP is for strategical scale, basically a simulator with the amount of detail unseen in any other game (realistic ballistics and penetrations, morale, fatigue etc., pretty much anything you can think of).

Amen brother. After all these years playing it, I've just started playing PBEM matches.[:)]
Rome Total War, mentioned earlier, was a big fav, as was TOAW.
