There is talk about editing the Opart 4.ini file but there is no such file in my "The Operational Art of War IV" directory. The only .ini file is "Opart 3 Fonts Chinese.ini". This concerns the Steam edition.

The file is in your "Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV" directory.

For Steam it is typically "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Operational Art of War IV" but there are no relevant .ini files there. Everything else is there though.

Your Documents\My Games folder, not Program Files...

There is always 'Magnifier' which works well for turn base games.

I see this thread has not been used in a while, maybe everyone went blind from trying to read the tiny icons... ;)

New player here, I used the font adjustment from the forum and just found the scaling setting in Opart 4 Fonts.ini which does help. Aside from these technical things I'm enjoying the game. It would be great if some of the settings were a bit more user friendly. I understand that it's an older game infrastructure, but it's still $40 on Steam. At any rate, looking forward to playing this a bit scaled up! (my resolution is 2160x3840, and with the scaling at 1.3 its much easier on my eyes. I may further tweak it but this is a good start.

I tried changing the resolution but the game didn't stretch to the entire screen. Any idea how to fix that?

The answer is probably earlier in this thread but here you have one solution, in windows 11 :

Shift-Right-Click on Opart 4 exe, click properties, compatibility tab, change high DPI settings, override to system enhanced.

Fix #1, Full screen mode with resolution change. This will increase the size of the entire screen, but it may make things a bit fuzzier.

Edit your Documents/My Games/The Operational Art of War IV/Opart 4 file and add the following three lines to the end. 1024 and 768 are just examples, you can put in anything that your monitor supports. You can find those by right-clicking on the desktop and going to Display Settings. There should be a drop down list of supported values.

ChangeScreenResolution=Y
ScreenY=768
ScreenX=1024

Fix #2, change the fonts.

Edit your Documents/My Games/The Operational Art of War IV/Opart 4 Fonts file and replace the contents as a starting point. We'll add some of the best from the community into a patch, and they can, of course, be downloaded from the forums.

Isn't the Opart4 fil an *.exe file ??????

There are examples here. I'll try to update this post as better ones become available.

Long term, I'm going to look into an option to 'rightsize' all the dialogs, or probably just the graphics on the dialogs. I don't have an ETA for that, and it may make things blurrier. Rightsizing the graphics will be the first thing I try. I need to fix the 'critical' bugs first.
