RE: Focus Pacific-GP's Scenario 78

Post by WingCmdr »

Hi Everyone,

My game is currently Dec 15 and I don’t know if this is a good time to start analyzing my logistic situation but it does not look right. I am not wonky with crunching numbers. But I have some testing from scenario 75 to compare and I am going to look deeper into my concerns.

I do not have a handle on AA ammo usage for 88 and 100mm guns. I would like to get a better feel for how many I can put on an Atoll. In non dot hexes ammo usage can be a real issue in daily wave bombing: say 5 or more separate LB attacks.

I don’t know how I am going to bridge the AA gap with the small number of 20mm and 75mm guns I have. An allied player can be relentless with B25s at 5k. So with the increase in allied a/c there could be a real imbalance between the two vs. stock.

I would like some detail about ammo usage and how much supply I can expect to use with these big AA guns?

I have two posts below and If anyone wants to throw out their observations feel free, I really need some good wonky answers before we all spend too much time later that maybe we can analyze and improve now. Really appreciate it.

TTL Fuel

12 15 41 3.6m
12 24 41 (Scen 75 Test) 3.5m

With the AA ammo usage info I need above I need a comparison of the number of AA barrels in this mod vs. stock. My opponent and me disagreed on one house rule about 4e bombing. For me to consider changing an HR based on what I see in the mod I need detailed info to present my case.

First of all, do you use tracker. If not, I suggest that you do. Secondly I don't have any data on AAA. So the information that you are seeking wouldn't be coming from me. You may want to post in the main forum so the number crunchers can have at it....GP

You're right, I kind of forgot about that. I thought by now we might have a way to quantify this a little better, and I estimated 10% increase in overall supply production to meet that demand.

Well can you help me out with the other point I raised, the number of barrels I have, or no. of units x barrels. . It might be the kind of info somebody can spit out in 10 mins, I am not just asking you but anybody who's done a little testing of this mod. Besides It would be good to show the readers a comparison to stock. It ties in with the issue I am having with the HR I agreed to.

I didn’t use tracker or Intel tracker this game. It ads a lot of time, not in difficulty or the product, but where my eyes are and the misleading intel that are the sources of its data. I am an excel wiz, well used to be, I used it through my whole business career on an hourly basis. That’s why I luv the Beta. Intel tracker is fun to put you’re S2 hat on and sort the data. It does reward the effort.

I like this mod for all the extra ships because now I do not need to move as many forces around. I can leave a lot more at strategic locations. The KB may never need to sail west of Rabaul. If you can keep more forces locally you can react better to what you see happening on the map.

My eyes are seeing that FP pilot reports vary widely in quality. Good game design. He see’s 10 ships and reports it. Then at base he says “well, I think 6 CV 2BB and 2 DD”. Somewhere in that process the side with that FP should get a D/l of that sighting. Why should that 12 ship CV TF be sure of the enemy’s d/l?

Is there a thread out there where this issue has been discussed?

These are the only two house rules we have:
House rules:
No 4 engine Naval Attack
No 4 engine ground attack into hex with friendly troops

Which one do you want to change? I take it you want to change the second one to no 4 engine ground attacks at all.

We are 8 turns into the game and you want to change house rules? You won't send me a turn, or answer my emails, I think our game is done.
A lack of communication is very bad form.

That is sad, but I agree. Once the game is started, the HR's stay as is....GP

Scenario 78 AA Barrels

One thing about being a team leader is you get to delegate. Well one of the Destroyers has stepped up for me and given me a laymans view of how they approach this issue. They simply went to the ground units list and counted. All approximations I have not checked these.

81 TTL AA Units

23 Ind AA MC Co. 6 x 20mm
8 AA Field Btn 36 x 75mm (Assigned at Army level)
10 AA Field Btn 12 x 75mm
14 AA Defense Btn. 8 x 88mm
25 AA Defense Regt 16 x 100mm
8 Imperial AA Div - Lots of everything 72 x 20mm 48 x 40mm 24 x 10cm etc
(My friend goes if I can only command one unit that would be it. Shutup)

B 25 Production
Mod Cntry Qty Date
B 25C US 20 41 12
B25C CH 36 43 05
B25D FR 20 43 08
B25D US 52 43 02
B25G US 42 43 06

The top analysis does not balance, the unit mix still does not look right, but just to keep things moving here’s my takeaway. With the high number of 2e and 4e bombers in this mod I feel I am very vulnerable in the lower end of the flak range. Right about the spot that the 40mm would fill.

We need to try and give the IJ player a ground based way to deal with intense ground attacks in the 5 – 10k’ range.

French BBs

I started looking at some of the exp levels of some of the IJ BBs and some of the French BBs and I was a little surprised at how good the French where. I thought the British and then the Japanese had the best navies. The performance of the French forces in North Africa show they can’t hit a barn from the inside. I can’t recommend a good number, but at the risk of offending my French friends, they should be a lot worse than the Americans, where would they get their experience from in 1941?

Can you take a look these levels and see if we can’t get a little balance?

Dutch BBs

They are 65/57 exp vs. the California 56/51. They should have no exp, or at least worse than the French.

I have to ask, since I am new here, and only a newly promoted Matrix Trooper.

Are you the person who will be supporting the Japanese side of this mod?

How far down the list? Judging by this thread as far as I know you have done nothing on the IJ side.

We all do this for free and in our spare time, so I will work at your pace.

Update; Bill, I talked to Bruce and he told me that he Didn't add many pilots or other leaders. I now have a pilot list and next I will try to get LCU and TF/Ship commanders.
The AAA mid range weapon thing, for the Japanese, is fixed.
BB's experience is on the list.
That's all for now....GP
