RE: What social media do you use?
Facebook has a couple of decent private groups for wargamers. I very, very rarely post on my own FB page, but I do post on private group pages. I check Twitter for amusement. Nobody should take that website seriously.

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

I have accounts on Facebook and Twitter, but I seldom use them. Those have got some bad rep over bans & censorship, so I registered on Gab just recently. Look at that, Gab has a Wargamers group (looks like messages aren't visible to unregistered users). Joined! I'm most active on Discord, and I watch videos on YouTube where I also make an occasional comment. I've also got Whatsapp account, but so far I have only used it among the family. Rarely I make use of IRC.
If you want to chat with me in real-time or invite me to game, you can find me on Discord with my first name (Matti) on Matrix Games and Hex! servers.
Had a look at Gab, what a right-wing circle-jerk.

If you follow clowns you will get clownish stuff... obviously.
Did you know scholars use this platform? They happen to share *interesting* info [;)]

For games I rely on forums and directly speaking with devs than wargaming clubs and other type of social media. For news I don't trust businessman&Govt funded TV's. Remember in most countries journalists, doctors, lawyers are in jail or can not find a job doing their work, speaking the truth or the decisions they make. They use twitter, youtube and such..

Gab is more than that. It's got groups, and messages can be posted under those groups. After brief look around some game related groups (I don't read them every week), those seem to stay on topic and I don't recall seeing much politics related material.Any social media network that is sufficiently free speech, will inevitably become right wing.

I just used Discord for that while taking part to a multiplayer game. Got good experiences about TeamSpeak too.ORIGINAL: LarryP

Twitter: Cyclist Lance Armstrong, was overseas. He tweeted that in the morning he was going to do a ride with the starting place and time. He expected a few locals might turn up. Instead, a hundred turned up all with different cycling ability. This story got me onto Twitter. I started to follow people who are experts in their field, such as Warren Buffet and a few others. Buffet did not tweet and the others talked politics and ignored their field of expertise. I quit twitter.
Facebook: It came along some 10 years ago. I searched for old friends with no luck and nobody came searching for me.
Recently I had to buy a part for my Jeep Wrangler (I love my Jeep!). I had to order from the US during Covid. My options were:
-Write a letter and allow 8 weeks for a return letter.
-Send an email to an inbox which is probably full
-Send a message via Facebook messenger. I got an answer overnight! Fabulous!
So, Facebook has a use.
The other use is for junior sport teams to use Facebook for scheduling of matches and training.
Otherwise, I have no interest in your meal or your cat so Facebook is mostly hopeless!

I don’t use any social media either, FB, Twitter, etc. I have taken a stand against it. I’m 47 by the way ( Maybe I’m getting old?)

RE: What social media do you use?
I have come to understand, that it isn't the social media, it isn't the device it is used on.
It isn't any one demographic.
And it isn't the government, or any corporation.
It's the schmucks who never had any voice worth mention prior to the internet. Because in person no one with an ounce of sense would actually give them the time of day in person.
And those people exist anywhere. Any program, service or device.
People here, and people there.
Work, politics, religion, hobbies, company sites.
I use FB only because it connects me to some close family and friends.
I never mass forward emails.
I rarely have my cellphone turned on.
FB is the fastest way to reach me.
No, FB isn't perfect.
But that's the internet.
I only watch YouTube for laughs. The most dreadful examples of humanity. And they know no borders.
Occasionally I watch blacksmithing or painting or model-based topic. Or the weather.
Or incredibly dumb garbage.
I admit it, I watch losers being losers.
I wouldn't have internet if not for buying stuff online.
I've come a long way since I thought Steam was a self-evident bad idea.
I now am ok buying software there first. The dreaded danger of not being able to use it if the company dies, has no value in 2021.
I just bought a batch of wargames specifically on Steam.
Forums are entirely yesterday.

Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

Unfortunately yes. Still no player in this forum -Unless living under Nicolae Ceaușescu regime like- will fully understand why social media is important.ORIGINAL: MrsWargamer

None, I loathe groupthink and the vast majority of censors at Facebook and Twitter cancels folks if they inject anything outside of what they perceive as social norms/ their bubble.

I hear Reddit is as bad. Nevertheless a (small?) number of people have started raising up their middle fingers against it. I particularly lover this comment on Reddit (deleted by moderators):ORIGINAL: SuluSea

Reddit is too vast to fill a definition, and each subreddit has their own rules. Some are rather strict.
Since I'm planning a new campaign at the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG I'm currently posting on that subreddit, and it is not really much different from here. The rules are simple and to the point. If anything, they are even much stricter than here.
Other subreddits are the worst but they are not even the majority. I posted on the one devoted to Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" a few years ago, when I finally watched the movie, and it was full of interesting debates and interpretations (bordering on the obsessive, true, but that's Kubrick for you [:D]). Again, the moderation was strict - even if, given the nature of the movie, they allowed for a lot of contents re: sexuality, eroticism, sex cults and a lot of other material NSFW. Still, it couldn't be gratuitous but pertinent.

Definetely, Reddit also has design ideas for Factorio and for many many games. 'Ekşi Sözlük (started in 1999)' translated as'sour dictionary' is Turkish equivalent. Less about choosen ones for press or the government media -not only about some censorship overall- but social media can have full of ideas of all citizens. Some are bad or good like in life.
