Turn 15
Oleg is really stinking the place up with his gas!
My helo has reloaded and will be back in action about the time my two mech units adjust position.

A little action on the far left of the map. Everything else is quiet.

This game has been a bit of a disorganized mess for me. And of course to make matters worse it is in public view. Without the game even being over I would change the following if I were to do it again:
  • I was prepared to defend, but in no way ready to change over to the attack if necessary. I wasn't flexible enough
  • I didn't plan attacks with any coordination
  • I didn't protect my moving units with any form of covering fire...

Turn 16

Moved forward. Got my butt kicked. Problem is mainly that Oleg has small units, dug in. They are hard to see and hard to dislodge. I lost over 20 runners this turn...

That's pretty much it. The central sector will decide it, and I don't have enough to hold it. But I will try. Many of the units you see in the screenshot are very tired, no morale or no ammo. They are present, but certainly not in fighting form.

Turn 17

Helos to the rescue. Did some serious damage to Oleg. Lost one helicopter in the exchange and used up most of their ammo again. But well worth it. Destroyed close to 15 runners I think.

Here's before. And yes, bad location for the helos but they did mostly survive.

Turn 18

Sorry folks, lost the screenshots. So here's what happened. I destroyed another of Oleg's tank platoons (2/B ) in the picture above. Actually I think there is one tank left. Not too worried about it. His helos harassed my mech unit 2/3 in the woods in the north before wandering off to engage my AD platoons from outside their range. The mech unit grateful for the break weren't at their guns when another of Oleg's tank platoons swarmed into view. A quick hit and run; then they were away.

My scout infantry ran into his in the SW, with a total loss of my remaining forces down there. All arty is set now for direct support in expectation of a push from Oleg to clear the sector, I am moving my last mech infantry assets up to counter...

5 more turns!

Turn 19

Grrr. Send the A/D platoon commander to me! No. Just send me his head. Dug in, waiting for just this kind of opportunity and MISS

Oleg is dropping more gas, and harassing fire on my poor troops. They are too tired to fight, and morale is not exactly high either. I hope I can hang on to this one corner of the sector...

Turn 20
More combat... I took more than I gave, and my troops refuse to stay put in the corner... too exposed, too tired, too demoralized...
I am going to continue to drive them forward. I can't even hope to break even if I don't keep at least 12 runners in this sector by the end. Perhaps I should wait, but there are only 4 turns left.

The price of sticking around. Compare the map above to this one.

Turn 21
Oleg is pushing. Unfortunately he has more powerful units than mine at present... If you have followed the last few screenshots you will notice I am having a hard time keeping my units in the line...

last turn coming up (I got out by one)

Oleg Assaults with what he has left.... so do I. It is a very anti-climactic finish since my troops (and hopefully his) have lost the will to fight...

And the final tally. there was no way I could win with the losses I suffered. Oleg holds the contested sector as well.

WELL PLAYED OLEG!

I did manage to really hurt his force, but nothing compared to what he did to me.

Hahahah! Great stuff Belphegor! And great game.

I was laughing all the time I read this thread... well written too. [:D]

Why didn't you try to sneak some units around by flanks, in my back and sector 1? For a good half of the game I was expecting your main attack will come over one of the flanks. Once I realized you don't plan to come over flanks, I transferred my flank units towards that central sector and then WP chances lowered considerably.

Why didn't I try the flank?

Well, for the first part of the game I was waiting for you to come to me. then I was indecisive about where I was going to attack you... and by then, it was sector 6 or nothing! [:D]

Besides, after my helos saw your armour deployed across that field, I didnt think my mech inf could handle you. Not enough cover...

Next time! [8D]

I am surprised about the US use of gas (not doctrinally accurate but hey whatever) and the failure of the Sovs to retaliate in kind. Belphegor, did you not have chemical munitions? Was there some kind of disadvantage to your using chem against Oleg? just curious.

Chems are near useless in FPG. Every vehicle is NBC protected. My use of chemicals is more a sign of me being angry and throwing everything and a kitchen sink at him, than anything else.

I can't remember why I didn't respond in kind with gas. I may not have had gas capable launchers in the game, I do know I was constantly busy with other targets needing attention too. I really could have used more arty support.
