[:D]  Yeah, Andy!

I'm going to hasard a guess and say mwest is against the new extreme assault rules.

These have been a lot of fun, but I got in trouble with my wife over my last one.

These have been a lot of fun, but I got in trouble with my wife over my last one.

Frank!

You show your videos to your wife? [X(]

Ah, not a good idea... women just don't understand our drive for "artistic perfection!" [;)]

BTW... no, I don't like extreme assault. IMO, it destroys game flow, and reduces a otherwise balanced match into a grinding, slug fest. I recently played Mr. RR. in a WF scenario with extreme assault on. Even though Ed is a more experienced and skilled player then me... he was unable to eliminate (or even reduce in strength!!) a lone German machine gun platoon defending in a trench. Ed was attacking with a battalion-sized force, my unit was surrounded (with supply cut off) for 8 TURNS plus he was conducting artillery barrages on my hex. Nothing happened... except that the MG unit was able to decimate his attacking troops. Likewise, I had other units in bunkers that were happy as a clam, decimating Ed's troops. BTW, these units also NEVER suffered a single strength point reduction, even when surrounded, and supply cut off for multiple turns. After I experienced that "realism," I swore off using extreme assault and will never play a game with that option on again.

Yep, I'm against extreme assault. [:@]

Yes, and what mWest did not say was that the MG unit which held out was often disrupted multiple times and reduced by indirect and direct fire. Each turn assaulted by a maximum amount of infantry units, often assaulted more than once in a turn. But, the disrupted Mg platoon repelled each assault and always recovered morale to fight again.
No lie. It was 8 turns of watching a single unsupplied Mg platoon decimate my forces and repel assaults. Eight turns of disrupt and recovery. I think that I just shot him to death in the nineth turn or I would still be trying to assault it.
I did not lose the game. But, to be honest, the game was made "un-fun" by this extreme assault formula.

The only thing extreme assault does is extremely assault the fun of playing a game. [:@]

I will still play some of my games using extreme assault due to opponent preference. I'm even converting some of my scenario designs to use extreme assault (or at least not be ruined by it). But, after many games played, I do not think that this new rule added any "realism".
It is just a conduit for more gamey play than the old rules. [X(]

We need an extreme assault light, mild, or medium version. And, a re-thinking on the part of the Matrix crew developers to restore some of the potency of armor in assaults. That part of the formula just does not make sense. Especially when you view armor working with infantry to assault through towns and rough, in real WWII video footage.

I will now end the rant go back to just making my movies. [;)]

For play against HAL, the exteme assault rules might be good, because HAL usually plays the defender, and HAL needs all the help he can get.
