RE: The verdict is in
For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the TO&Es of this particular game, Soviet AA regiments have 20 medium guns and AA battalions have 12. There are on map brigades with 50 medium guns.
There are 4 brigades, 34 regiments and 43 battalions with almost 1600 guns total.
Here is roughly what's where
1st Air Army 173
2nd Air Army 73
4th Air Army 218
8th Air Army 200
Long Range AC 287
Baku 168
Other cities 96
Other armies 361

Week 53
Week 53 north of the Oka
With the Red Army under new management, this is how things appeared at the end of Week 53. Contrary to Axis beliefs, this area has not been a concern to the Soviet High Command from this time even to the current day. Manstein's 56th Panzer Corps was active in the area, but that was some time ago. Here, only one German motorized division lingers and is not a threat.

One big difference of a team game ..on turn 55 .. the Germans focus these forces toward one goal.

[sillyness=on] I’m thinking that no amount of me fussing that Soviet flak is way too powerful is going to get the powers to be to realize that Gorky should not be Berlin 1944 ! [:D][/sillyness]
Turn 62 the German Luftwaffe run into “carpet” flak at a great cost. A revision of plans is in order..[8D]

This game doesn't have anywhere near the loses to flak that my game with Brian has. I believe this game also started under a patch or two before current patch. Thus super low loses to flak. I know I have more loses to flak than air-to-air battles in my game with BrianG. You will get your but handed to you if flak is set up correctly.

Where - did you pick that up? Just by eye? I cannot see that?ORIGINAL: Nix77
That's actually quite an amazing structure. They even have a football field there!![]()
Some random web quote about Neft Daslari:
Over these platforms, workers built eight-story apartment blocks, a beverage factory, soccer pitch, library, bakery, laundry, 300-seat cinema, bathhouse, vegetable garden and even a tree-lined park for which the soil was brought from the mainland. During its heydays, some 5,000 workers lived here.
I'd be really interested to know what kind of supports hold the structure afloat? As far as I know, the South Caspian Sea is the deeper part, reaching depths of over 1 kilometer. The oil rig network is over 50 kilometers off the shore, so the water probably is a bit more than knee deep

RE: The verdict is in
According to wikipedia, which is always accurate [:)] , it is 1 km down at that point. They said the structure is fixed, not floating, built on sunken ships. Even though the Caspian can be stormy, you do not have the oceanic forces that say the North Sea platforms work with so I guess that is good enough. But in the 50s the Soviet Union built special crane assemblies to drive piles into the sea floor just for that town. There are now 200 km of bridges joining the man made islands.
The problem for EwaldvonKleist is that he would still have to swim the Caspian as they were not built until after the war. But in this game's alternative history perhaps Crackaces air force will be sinking lots of ships in the Caspian so they can get going straight away. There have been many firsts in this game. EwaldvonKleist walking on water will be another one!

Week 53 continued
South of the Oka, German attacks in the north surround three units.

In the center the Axis air forces are quite active as blows are exchanged.

In the south, the Germans are preparing to cross the Don. There are no really strong Soviet units here.

The air battle over Gorky continues.

Week 54
Week 54
The Germans consolidate their positions near Ryazan and focus now on Tambov.
Farther south, a pair of guards cavalry corps are unable to extricate themselves from the grip of the panzers.

Along the Don at Rostov, the Axis forces do indeed cross the river and complete their encirclement. The Red Army pulls back here.

On the anniversary of Barbarossa, a re-enactment of the air war seems in progress as many Soviet air units are caught on the ground. This was previously covered. I will add that the reason I accepted this turn as part of the continuation of the game with Crackaces was that it was a fair exchange for having asked for a turn back previously after it had been sent after a similar mistake had been made with air range settings. So to an extent, the favor has been returned.
The air war over Gorky again

Here is the OOB. Despite the carnage wrought, Axis air forces may need a breather in the following week. Quite a few unready aircraft on their side.

RE: Week 54
Just one thing on the OOB and airplanes .. that is a view of what is out on the map and not what is in national reserve. So airplane devices can fluctuate wildly depending on how much is in or out of reserve.
One thing that is key is recon and determining numbers of ready aircraft on airbases. That provides an excellent metric on the health of the air force.

@Telemecus: It seems I should better have taken a lawyer. Where is sillyflower when you need him?
The defendant will rise.
On the first charge, conspiracy with foreign and domestic agents to encourage continuation of the U-2VS aircraft, the court finds you guilty.
On the second charge, attempting escape from the USSR, the court finds you not guilty. Despite the best efforts of NKVD interrogators, no confessions or incriminating documents could be obtained to substantiate the charge.
On the third charge, authoring a document treasonous to the interests of the USSR, the court finds you not guilty. It must be conceded that the two portraits of the von Kleist individuals side by side does leave sufficient room for doubt, especially as the hats fit both so well.
Upon review of the court findings, Marshal Grigory Kulik, a fair and completely impartial officer has decided that in recognition of your previous contributions to the defense of the state, few and insignificant that they were compared to the great STALIN, you may choose one of three options.
1. You may be shot at dawn
2. You may be hanged at dawn
Or…you may accept the opportunity to purge your crime with blood. In these extraordinary times we need more men in the trenches. You will be reduced in rank to a level commensurate with your new leadership role (that of course I will handle). Against all odds, should you survive this assignment, your guilty verdict will be expunged with consideration towards restoring you to your previous rank.
You are required to choose one of these options immediately so we can make arrangements for either a firing squad, a hangman, or a car to transport you to your new unit.
Signed in the name of Marshal Kulik
