RE: Beta Patch v1.020 possible rule amendment?

Post by SGT Rice »

I've had a couple of games (Global Glory scenario) going using v1.020 as downloaded from the Matrix public release site. A couple of bugs to report from those games:

1) The US resource gift to Japan works as in vanilla AWD; 5 resources that automatically end after Summer 41. Although the resource gift ends, the game will still announce in subsequent turns that the US is imposing the oil embargo (for example if the Japanese move units into Indochina in Fall 41).

2) After a player concludes his turn (but before exiting the game) he can suddenly be confronted with a map displaying all enemy unit locations. This definitely was NOT due to spies/SIGINT/units revealed during the course of the turn. This appears to be a somewhat random occurence; the first time I noticed it I thought I had mistakenly started the game with FOW off.

I don't know if this is related, but the 'official' public release of v.1.020 is incompatible with the originial beta v.1.020 (which did not exhibit the bugs referred to above) that I had been using in the Lightning Tourney; the game displays a 'checksum' error if you try to pass game files between the two versions.

I'm not sure that v1.020 neutral view mode is working as it should, please take a look at Scotland and Gibraltar in this screenshot.

My suspicion is that the screen shot was taken before the turn was closed out by the Axis player.

Theoretically, such a "neutral" screenshot could give your enemy an information which you don't want him to have - where you moved or which province was revealed by spies.

Thinking more, I don't think my suspicion could be correct. You cannot get to the neutral screen shot without saving, exiting, and reopening the file. By which time it should be cleared.

Wishful thinking because I don't want there to be a bug, I guess.

#$&^@$@&^% bugs.

This I think is a known bug. I posted a fix on the GG scenario thread under the Mod subforum.

This last is disturbing. They should be the same, I actually had nothing whatsoever to do with the "official" release they were just supposed to be making the exact same stuff official instead of beta.

The best thing is probably for me to push out this new patch so people are working with the same version I am. I want to make an effort at that. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll keep an eye out for this.

Now that you mention it, I recall when you fixed it the first time; the beta version we were using for the Lightning tourney worked correctly. But the current public release of v1.020 (dated 4 April 2008 on the download page at http://www.matrixgames.com/games/downloads.asp?gid=330) has reintroduced the bug.

Arghh.

The 1.020 release was a no work event for me, they were just making it official. It simply didn't occur to me to fix the bug in the scenario (actually, I exerted no brain activity whatsoever for upgrade from beta to official).

Thanks for pointing it out, I put a note in the v1.020 release announcement thread.
