Personal diary of FM Leeb:
October 18, 1941
MUD! I have never seen so much rain, sleet and mud in once place in my entire life! Everything gets stuck in it, tanks, trucks, horses, men! Some of the troops have reported losing boots and gear in the mud. never to be seen again. Our operations are moving at a snail's pace now....
The Finnish Army with support from elements of the 18th Army have captured the last stragglers of the Lennigrad defence. They have offered to garrison the area for now. In reality, they have lost the political will to continue fighting now that they have avenged themselves for the Winter War losses.
Gen. Kuchler and 18th Army are packing up and moving to the Moscow sector of the front to join 16th Army operations there. With the change in weather it will probably take them a month to get there!
4th Panzer is pushing forwad down the road to Vologda, slowed only by the weather...

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body,
but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"
