Hmm, I still haven't sent my carriers in as I wanted at least 1 or 2 days of mineclearing to go on first to prevent them being hit by too many mines.

In other news Hosho which had gotten 55 sys and 82 flotation damage is now down to 60something flotation damage. With a little luck she might even survive ( which I really wouldn't have thought possible just 2 days ago.

And at Baguio. I think I'm developing quite the fetish for ground support missions in this game. Normally I don't go in for them much but with the lack of Allied fighters and bombers being based forward I have run out of worthwhile targets.

And now the way is clear for my Infantry Division to land without disruption. Excellent. I have also transferred in the necessary Zero Sentai to provide LRCAP for the convoy as it enters the range of land-based bombers operating from Soerabaja.

I won't cover this force with an SC TF as I am resting my CAs, BBs and DDs in Singapore and allowing them to repair in preparation for the move on India.

In contrast to Iman this Japanese bombardment is all about burning Chinese supplies. If the Chinese supplies get used up then this 2,000 AV stack is just so much dead meat on the table for my attackers. If the supplies aren't burnt up then my forces are in for a very bloody battle indeed.

One other thing I've done recently is shut down production of Topsys, prepare to shut down production of Mavis patrol planes and stopped expansion of Zero production as my supply levels in Japan are just not up to further expansion and the Topsys and Mavis use Hitachi engines which are in quite short supply right now ( and which I'm going to need lots of for the Ki-48 II and Ki-109 which both come on-stream in 2 months time.

Already I'm operating with only 3/4 of my armament factories operational and curtailed aircraft production in lesser types. I am continuing to expand my Mansyu production as I am seeking to build 60 Ki-264 L ( transports ), 60 Ki-264 A ( level bomber with 100 Kg bombs ), 90 Ki-264 Bs ( with Hs-293 guided bomb variants --- specialised CV and BB killers ) and 90 G9Ms ( four-engined torpedo bomber with outsized torpedo ). Since each of the bomber variants requires 6 engines ( it only really needed 4 but I set the requirement at 6 to simulate the difficulty Japan would have building such complex planes ) and the transport variants require 5 the number of engines needed to reach this goal of 300 Ki-264 variants per month is 1,740. That means to JUST produce the Ki-264 class I will have to invest 2,300,000 tons of supplies. I'm up to about 450 Mansyus per month now and so am on course to hit 1,750 per month by year's end ( which is when the last of the Ki-264 variants comes online ).

So, I'm managing to produce just enough of the planes I deem essential to the war effort but I'm having to cut corners elsewhere ( e.g. I've amalgamated my recon squadrons so that the front-lines have Ki-46s. This means that, in effect, I'm only using 20% of the squadrons with the other 80% disbanded into them. Is this risky? Yeah it means I have very limited recon potential BUT since I have the initiative I can concentrate what little recon potential I have wherever I want and so a little can go a long way.

Well, time to discuss operations against India...

I want to cut India off from Chinese SEAC reinforcements so that necessitates taking Burma. I also want to be able to send my convoys in without CAP and the necessitates taking out Ceylon. The main question now is whether I take out Ceylon or Burma first.

My assessment is that if I take out Ceylon first Burma can be reinforced by many Chinese SEAC units so I am going to take out Burma first and then use that necessity to further the maskirovka that I will land in Eastern India. So, the troops from Singapore are going to land at Ye and then march up through Burma. With the large number of armoured forces available to this Army Group I am hopeful of quickly driving to the Chinese border and cutting off the route their SEAC divisions would take to reinforce India. In order to prevent them pushing through even though I hold the Burma end of the road I will also conduct a small resource bombing campaign on the Chinese bases close to the Burma border ( this will rob the Chinese forces trying to force this path to India of their supplies and greatly lessen the likelihood of them forcing this path ).

Once Burma is taken I'll take Akyab and begin making demonstrations toward Chittagong, Calcutta etc with a view to drawing Indian forces eastward before taking Ceylon with follow-on forces and considering whether to go short ( Vizgatapam, Madras etc ) or long ( Bombay or Karachi ). My hope is that by moving fast and taking Burma and then Ceylon relatively quickly I can prevent India being reinforced from either China or Aden and thus set the stage for a short, successful ground war.

Once I clear Bataan I should be able to bring roughly 6,000 AV to bear which I am hopeful will prove sufficient. ( 2,000 in the first wave as misdirection and to shape the battlefield and 4,000 in the main invasion force ).

The mine attacks continue apace. Right now I have bigger fish to fry --- and realise that by taking the nearby DEI and Burmese bases he is, undoubtedly, basing out of I will reduce his mine attacks massively --- but they are annoying. I think Yuho Maru will probably sink.

Gees, dive-bombers are just SOOOO fragile. If I weren't going to attack here in 2 or 3 days time I jut couldn't sustain these losses - I've determined that you want to keep the loss rate below 3% if you want to gain experience from these bombing raids and right now these DB raids are running at just a bit over 4%.

Only one more IJA division is left to arrive and it should arrive within the next two days... Well, I have managed to free another one by juggling some Brigades around to meet garrison requirements but that other Division has to come from the coast and it'll eb another week, which I simply can't wait for. So it'll bolster my forces after the initial assault. Some fresh blood will probably come in handy anyways.

My ability to repair and upgrade plane factories and engine factories in the Home Islands is being crippled by a lack of supply so several AK TFs are sent to nearby islands to pull in all the supplies stockpiled there.

My decision to build my Mansyu engines in Manchukuo is really paying dividends as Manuchukuo is one of those areas of my Empire which produces significant excess supply on a daily basis and, as such, is best suited to sustaining a sustained engine building programme designed to utilise 1.8 million tons of supplies in the next year JUST for Mansyu expansion. Damn but a strategic bomber force is expensive. If I weren't interested in testing the mod by running the economy to the ragged edge I think I would cut most of the Ki-264 series and take the safer, easier and cheaper route of going for a more tactical and operational rather than strategic force.

Ah and a sign that the Allies are reinforcing Ceylon. Interesting, my CVs are ordered to avoid the Malacca Straits and instead take the straits between Java and Sumatra. I had 36 IJN Zeroes twice as close but I don't want to be drawn into committing IJN forces to the front line (beyond the 3rd Kokutai ) as once I commit a little more than I have undertaken to commit I will find myself getting slowly but surely drawn into committing more and more and I'll never build up that strategic reserve I require for 1943/44.

Good, the enemy force is pretty much rendered impotent. I'll leave 60 or so AV behind to hold Koumac but will push my main force through to Noumea and take that ASAP. I'll have to return to eliminate this force as its presence will prevent Koumac from producing supplies --- this is a pity as I was hoping to use the force for bomber training but even in removing it I can gain a lot of experience for my ground troops so it won't all be wasted.

The landings of the diviion at Merak go off without a hitch. My CAP even keeps the enemy air force away.

Elsewhere I'm finally ready to attac at Honan and am about a day away from attack at Iman. With the 2 Army HQs I am bringing in to Merak to help remove fatigue from my forces in DEI I expect to pick up the pace of the advance there also.

So, once my CV force makes Ceylon I'll send my main army body to Burma and begin its conquest.... by this time the 4 undamaged carriers of the PH attack force will be available and will provide escort to my invasion force ( while CVA Yamato and the CVLs keep the Royal Navy engaged far to the west.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/18/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 80 encounters mine field at Port Blair [Andaman] (23,34)

Japanese Ships
LCVP AG-1413N, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

I've got 5 barge group ferrying supplies into Port Blair. They bring about 1,000 tons of supply every 6 days and that's enough to keep Port Blair well supplied.

Today also sees the beginning of reconnaisance flights against India and Burma. A Ki-46 II Dinah squadron will fly from Tavoy against targets in Burma while H6K-2 units at Port Blair split India at Calcutta. One squadron begins reconning coastal bases clockwise from Calcutta while the other works westward.

So, now 2ndACR will definitely know I am making for India but by reconning every base available I hope to keep him guessing as to precisely where I will land. So, strategic surprise is lost but I'm hoping to maintain operational surprise.

Tomorrow we attack. I have enough engineers along to remove their forts and enough troops to assure myself of, at least, a 2 or 3 to 1. There's a Fortified Region there though so my biggest worry is that this region will take another 4 or 5 days to reduce and give the Soviets the chance to retreat and set up a formidable defence at the next base on the line again... and while I have the force to push through for a while yet I have wrecked two divisions taking Vlad and undoubtedly will wreck another 1 or 2 taking Iman. Unless I can pursue I won't be able to push the enemy back past Borzya before I run out of troops.

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 2

Japanese max assault: 5550 - adjusted assault: 1782

Allied max defense: 1545 - adjusted defense: 583

Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Allied ground losses:

Excellen, the fortifications are all removed and tomorrow Honan should fall. I've lost about 180 AV here today ( half a division ) but when the Chinese are forced back they should lose 400 AV ( 20% of 2,000 ) so, overall, my military superiority should increase. Why is this important? Well, it will prove crucial in the battle to take Sian as intact as possible since the more I outnumber its defenders by the time I get there the fewer resources and HI will be damaged... and industrial capacity is the ENTIRE reason behind this drive into Communist Northern China. They have HI, OIL and RESOURCES I want in order to increase my production. Once I have them and have blocked off the Burma Road into China I'll sit back and resource bomb Nationalist China into oblivion.

Attacking force 264324 troops, 3847 guns, 2477 vehicles, Assault Value = 6283

Defending force 36591 troops, 484 guns, 30 vehicles, Assault Value = 1065

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 0

My engineer regiments reduced the fort level from FIVE to ZERO. That's brilliant work. All of my Manchukuo forces have gained SOOO much experience over the last month that they are now truly formidable and these Engineer Regiments are now absolutely the best in my entire army.

Japanese max assault: 12476 - adjusted assault: 8745

Allied max defense: 975 - adjusted defense: 1427

Japanese assault odds: 6 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Iman [AMUR] base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
10670 casualties reported
Guns lost 225
Vehicles lost 14

Allied ground losses:
4301 casualties reported
Guns lost 81

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Another IJA division is completely wrecked but the Allies are forced back and MASSIVELY IMPORTANTLY the Fortified Region at Iman is over-run.... which means that I can pursue the Soviets immediately. In two days time I expect to be able to attack these retreating forces and rout even more of their troops. With a little luck these troops won't be of any use by the time they stumble into the next Soviet base.

Attacking force 96447 troops, 1397 guns, 369 vehicles, Assault Value = 2571

Japanese ground losses:

Allied ground losses:

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Even though my forces at Honan were massively disrupted after the last attack I decided to take a chance and have them attack for one more day. I'm happy to say that the plan worked and Honan fell - just barely. The poor AV of my forces is due to most of them being out of supply due to the interruption of my supply line at Sinyang by 2 Chinese Field Armies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Sinyang [Cent China]

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 8968 troops, 74 guns, 29 vehicles, Assault Value = 207

Defending force 10172 troops, 173 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 527

Japanese max assault: 422 - adjusted assault: 99

Allied max defense: 405 - adjusted defense: 41

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
1598 casualties reported
Guns lost 25
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
78 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Well, what do you know? I took a chance that the Chinese would be out of supply as they are at the end of a long and tenuous supply line and thus ordered a single Japanese Brigade to Shock Attack two entire Chinese Armies. The end result was a smashing success with the Chinese forced back. There's still another Field Army on the way ( I am assuming ) but I also have an IJA divisions which I'm diverting to Sinyang to help out.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/20/42

Reinforcement efforts into Merak are continuing apace now that my DDs and fighers have removed the naval and aerial threats to my shipping. 2 Army HQs and 1 IJA and 1 Royal Thai Army divisions have or are due to land over the next 5 days. In addition I've landed some 10,000 tons of supplies which means that the forces at Merak which had previously been in the red in terms of supply are all now fully supplied. With the HQs present to provide additional support I expect to begin reducing the crippling fatigue ( over 60 for almost all units ) and disruption ( over 40 or most units ) which has built up over the past month. Then the attack will continue.

Logistics really are the key. Poor logistics and support will slow attacks more than enemy resistance much of the time. There's a lesson here for every player.

Ah, I haven't seen these planes for a long time. I wonder why they are in Oz? I told 2ndACR yesterday that I was going to invade India... Maybe he doesn't believe me? I have a history of telling my opponents where I'm going to invade as that allows them to better marshall their forces and provide stiffer resistance - which makes the invasion more challenging and thus more enjoyable as I get to operate at the knife edge of the possible. Perhaps he isn't aware of that and thinks my statement that I will be invading India next month is some sort of maskirovka. There's an irony to the fact that the bare truth may be what convinces him I won't go for India.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/21/42

We've been talking about the situation in the Soviet Union and 2ndACR seems intent on trying to hold at Khabarovsk. I think he can only muster about 2,000 AV for the defence there ( which won't be enough ) and we've been discussing his plan to defend at Khabarovsk. I've advised him that while it will hurt me to attack across a river the 50% chance that 7 Soviet divisions will retreat towards Komsomolsk if pushed back from Khabarovsk is just too high to take. If they retreat toward Khabarovsk then he loses all of Siberia - and to my mind that's just not worth the minimal benefit he will gain.

A good day for Japanese ASW. Interesting -- his B-19 raids appear to have stopped. I wonder if it's for re-basing, or he simply decided the losses were too high?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

As re: B-19s... I'm sure it is rebasing. He will, undoubtedly have them in either Oz or India and will seek to hit me with them when he feels the invasion of India/Oz is approaching his shores. 2nd ACR is aggressive. He won't leave those planes sitting around in order to save them for a museum somewhere [:D]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/23/42

All in all a very quiet day. Hundreds of transports are gathering at Singapore ( over 300 ) and the Phillipines ( over 200 ) to support the invasion of Burma and to bring the Phillipine invasion force to Singapore for rebuilding. Major ASW TFs ( over 50 ships in several TFs ) are sanitising the seas between Bataan and Singapore. So far so good, the Allied ships seem to be concentrated around Java.

Gees, Java is just utterly incapable of offering any resistance right now. In a couple of days I will look into launching Betty and Sally raids in conjunction ( bettys for distant targets, Sallys for targets close to palembang ) with a view to closing the airfields. My troops at Merak are STILL low on supplies ( despite the fact that I've shipping in over 20,000 tons of supplies... I'm shipping another 7,000 tons in and will take Toboali in a couple of days - with a view to allowing my barges to run supplies from Toboali to Merak. 400 tons of supplies PER DAY should solve this supply problem. ) an because they are low on supplies their fatigue is massive ( more than 70 ) and their rate of progress abysmal. I am considering dropping 4 or 5 divisions behind Soerabaja just to speed things up and end this campaign ASAP. I'm getting bored by it and want to being pressurising Australia ASAP.

Tomorrow I'll move my CVs to 5 hexes from Ceylon ( out of 500kg AP range of his Pe-2s - his 500lb GP bombs can't hurt Yamato and so long as I stay more than 4 hexes from his airfields he can only carry the 500lb GP bombs [8D] ) and sweep the airfields there with my Zeroes from Yamato.

Once that's done I'll see what I can do about rustling up some Royal Navy units. My CVEs are just 300miles south-east covering my replenishment TF while the 4 undamaged CVs of KB are now passing Thailand on their way to Singapore to cover the invasion convoy to Burma.

Singapore also disposes 9 BBs, 8 CAs ( all of my other surviving CAs are with Yamato as bomb magnets apart from 4 CAs covering Koumac and Luganville), about a dozen CLs and well over 50 DDs. Essentially the entire IJN apart from the 2 SC TFs at Luganvilla and the ships repairing in port are being committed into the Indian Ocean over the next 3 or 4 days.

Things should get interesting and VERY bloody in about 5 days.

This marks the end of Ichang as a place of value to the Chinese. I'm going to now begin reducing

Chungking. I've spotted at least one squadron of the AVG there ( 24 P-40Bs ) so will send in a few

days of sweeps by my Zeroes before committing my bombers en masse to close the airfield. With that

done I estimate it will take two weeks to reduce the resources and HI at Chungking from that date.

Whatis interesting here is just how well those Mosquitos did in the A2A fighting. They have a MASSIVE

speed advantage over the Zeroes and Rufes and have excellent armament so, really, they SHOULD do well

against Zeroes.

Previously though twin-engined planes didn't fare too well in A2A. I made some changes, added a K

factor dependent on engine numbers to all my planes and modified their manoeuvrabilities accordingly.

This seems to have done the trick.

It is easy to see just how much more effective the B-19s are than the B-17s in terms of survivability

CVA Yamato's fighter daitai is ordered to sweep over Colombo. This was ordered on the understanding that the CV TF would end the turn 5 hexes from Colombo at a range far beyond that of Vildebeests and well beyon the range at which Pe-2s can carry their lethal 500Kg AP bombs. Unfortunately my CVLs ended up only 4 hexes from Colombo and so the full weight of Allie vengeance hit them. Results were.... painful.

105 Allied fighters and bombers scream in, to be opposed by only 79 IJN fighters. There's no way they were all going to be stopped and 12 Vildebeests, 1 IL-4C and 28 Pe-2s survived to hit my CVs. Even though the Pe-2s came in at a reasonable altitude ( within range of my fighter CAP ) they managed to evade most of my fighters and break through the CAP.

Interestingly enough one of my F1M2 Pete's shot down a Spitfire. LOL!!!

Japanese Ships
CVL Ryujo, Bomb hits 1
CVL Chitose
CV Yamato, Bomb hits 2
CVL Warabite, Bomb hits 1, on fire

CA Mogami
CVL Zuiho, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
CVL Chiyoda, Bomb hits 1, on fire

All of the hits except for the single bomb on the Ryujo are 500 Kg AP bombs and they are devastating.

Yamato has over 40 sys damage from two hits which penetrated its flight deck armour while Warabite and Chiyoda are incapable of flight operations but should survive. The Zuiho is almost certainly going to sink with over 80 sys damage and 60 flotation damage.

Now, this is a bit of a disaster alright in that out of 1 CVA and 4 CVL fully CVA ad 3 CVL are incapable of further offensive action BUT I have 3 CVEs nearby covering the replenishment convoy AND this sort of crippled fleet is BOUND to draw the Royal Navy CVs out. As a result I'm running Warabite and Chiyoda back to Singapore but am going to use Yamato and Zuiho as bait whilst rushing the CVEs in to support them.

My plan is to retreat at no more than 120 miles per day and suck the Royal Navy CVs into battle and sink them. I'm fairly certain this will result in extensive further damage to CVA Yamato and the loss of at least another CVL or CVE but that's a price worth paying for opening the door to India.

Esentially, it's a disaster but that's no reason not to use it to gain further advantage. Aggressive? Moi? Toujours.

So, things are definitely interesting. My CVs and CVLs are battered but with the swapping out of most of my strike groups for fighters I expect them to be able to hold their own and if the RN comes out then I'll go over to the attack again .... at the grand pace of 12 knots ( which is all that CVA Yamato can manage anymore [:D] [:D]). Ah, it is good to be having to do things with damaged ships and shattered TFs again. It is much more fun than when things are going your way.

Nice to come over here and see an answer on what to do with my Mosquitos. I was beginning to wonder what I could do with them.

I hope he did what I wrote you via PM about the British CV squadron make up (was that changed for the next version of your mod?). He will need to optimize their capability. Unfortunately, he will need to get within knife fighting distance to truly be effective.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/28/42

Today sees at least 4 CAs off Colombo. I am assuming that this represents a Royal Navy CV TF with escorting CAs. It looks like they've over-estimated the amount of damage my fleet has suffered and from tomorrow my forces will begin to stalk them.

The AVG continues to be worn down nicely. This doesn't only help in China but is also helping to shape the battlefield in Burma as every fighter lost here is another fighter he can't transfer to Rangoon when the time comes.

You can't really argue with a 30:1 exchange rate. Those Spits are great planes but there's only so much they can do while tied down to escort duties.

I'll wait 3 days and then attack. Right now the river crossing has caused 80 to 90% disruption to my forces. I should regain 20% disruption per day and so if I hold for 3 days I should be down to 30% disruption and able to get a 4 or 5 to 1 attack ( which, with my engineers knocking his fortifications down, should be enough ).

My shipping is now on its way to Burma. I have 2 Regiments of paraborne troops and two dedicated air-landing Brigades ( these are ordinary Bdes but have been incorporated into an extempore 1st Airborne Corps ) at Andaman Island and Bangkok and I'm planning a two-stage assault on consecutive days on Ye and Moulmein. My plan is to capture the base at Moulmein with paraborne landings, fly in two Brigades of troops ( as well as an aviation support unit ) and then land the 2000+ AV of the Burma invasion Army and take Burma. In a couple of weeks, after my troops from the Phillipinnes have had a chance to rest and resupply at Singapore I'll move on Ceylon --- and I think I'll make some landings on Java also to speed things along there. 5 divisions landed in the right spot at the right time there would burst that entire area open and end things there quickly ( which will allow me to begin slowly exploiting toward India in order to get the jumping off points I want once my navy is free after covering the initial landings in India.

Its all about trying to manage my Army and Navy so that while one portion of the Army is beginning an invasion another portion is resting up and preparing for the next series of targets all while the Navy is cycling through an ever-smaller bunch of CVs with which to try to cover everything. Things are getting tight now but one month in drydock should see most of my non-combat system damage sorted and a second month should see most of my damaged CVs and CVLs repaired... in plenty of time for my planned June 1942 offensive in the south-eastern Pacific.

Ouch !!! These losses are simply unsustainable. I can't figure out just why he is letting the AVG bleed here. He's played a game in which he has conserved the RAF and USAAF as much as possible, he's sacrificed the Dutch Air Force in its entirety to keep the RAF safe and now he's letting the RAF and USAAF get bled to little gain. It makes no sense.

Day Air attack on TF at 13,31

Yesterday the CVA Yamato group moved north-westward into the attack. It paid off as today the RN TF and my IJN TF are just 120 miles apart. The RAF strike arrives first but my CAP is utterly overwhelming and it achieves nothing.

And this strike finally finishes her off. Scratch another flattop. A fair few of mine are going to be in the dockyard for a few months but these US and British CVs won't EVER be troubling me again and so strategically this is a significant victory.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/30/42

My Burmese Invasion TF is in the Malacca Straits and with the Royal Navy CV component seriously weakened ( Hermes was seriously damaged in a port attack about a fortnight ago and Indomitable was sunk yesterday ) I need only worry about a surface fleet component - which I am betting will not be committed to the area around Rangoon but will only be thrown in when I hit Ceylon - and his land-based air... which I am NOT going to seek to attrit through attacks on his base at Rangoon but will, instead, welcome with open arms.

Why? Well, Burma is, after all, merely a small "shaping" operation. It shapes the battlefield by:
a) preventing a massive influx of Chinese forces into India,
b) tempting the RN into action in an area in which I have aerial superiority ( I doubt he'll be that error-prone but it is still necessary to provide for that option as an operational variant,
c) creating a situation in which he may commit the RAF and USAAF. If he commits them then rather than going for airframe kills I'm willing to accept a few ship losses in order to go for pilot AND airframe kills in order to prevent him rebuilding the RAF and USAAF in time to succesfully withstand my CV-supported invasion of Ceylon ( due in only a short time ).

So, how will this be accomplished? Well, it will be accomplished by tempting him into the arms of my CAP. This is why I am seeking to take Moulmein and Ye by coup de main. If I take both then I'll simply land at Moulmein under cover of many Zeros. If I only take Ye then I'll simply unload there under cover of fewer fighters and have farther to march.

Anyways, enough pontification, back to business.

Ah, good, a secure landing site will help me avoid the 10%+ casualties that landing on an occupied beach always entails. That's nice as it will help keep these forces in good shape and speed the date at which they can be committed to India proper.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/31/42

With Ye falling yesterday it is time to see if I can't move up the chain a little. Today a second Airborne Regiment is ordered to airlift from Andaman Islands to Moulmein using 64 Mavis transport and patrol planes stationed at Andaman for that purpose.

Damn, I sent the bombers in at 3,000 feet and while the results were impressive ( 18 P-40Bs destroyed on the ground ) the losses of experienced pilots are prohibitive.

P-40B Tomahawk: 5 destroyed

Ah, we've got a reaction, excellent. The AVG enters my airspace to do battle and loses 5 pilots. Even a 1:1 exchange rate suits me as, in air battles over my base, my pilots have a good chance of bailing out and returning to service the next day while his will end up POWs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Rangoon [Burma] , at 29,33

Experienced Ki-43 units can just about hold their own when tangling with P-40Bs and since this is an all-hands affair I'm committing them now. I've scoured the area for more fighter units but, really, all I can find are a few Zeroes which I managed to fly off the damaged CVLs and one Nate unit which is half-way through conversion to a Zero unit. Its not much and they can't be fully in place for two days but, nonetheless, I'm committing them.

Well, that's the Dutch recon and aerial transport component settled anyways.

In other news, one of my Airborne SNLF units is making its way to Singapore in order to prepare for the next phase of operations against Java --- which is looking more and more likely to consist of a massive seaborne invasion of one of the bases south of Soerabaja. Fortunately I have naval supremacy ( as opposed to superiority ) in the area and thus can land on whichever side of the island I wish, greatly complicating 2nd ACR's defensive problems.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

The Soviet forces retreat towards Komsomolsk ( a dead end ) and away from Kyusheva ( sic ). This is nice since it means another 500 AV has been removed from his maximal, possible defence strength at Kyusheva ( sic ) and it provides me with the perfect, believable opportunity to pause for rest and resupply. I'll send some weakened divisions forward with as much artillery as I can gather together in order to besiege and bombard the Soviets at Kyusheva ( I see some 33 units there ) and reconsider my move toward Borzya. On the plus side this last series of attacks ( Khabarovsk, Iman and Komsomolsk ) should garner me the guts of 1,000 additional HI which is helping me immensely as I'm finally able to begin turning all my armaments factories on.

Ground combat at Noumea [New Cal]

Allied Shock attack

Yesterday a single IJA unit entered the Noumea hex. Unfortunately for 2ndACR this was a planned gambit on my part as I had the majority of the rest of that stack at between 50 and 59 miles in the previous hex. What was the aim of this strategem? Simple, show 2nd ACR a single unit in the hex yesterday and show him the possibility of an easy victory. Then when he attacked today have him find that instead of a 20 AV little SNLF he is actually attacking a divisional-strength force. The resulting losses and disruption make him easy pickings for a follow-on attack.

I won't attack immediately here though as I would like a few more of my units to be in the hex and I'm toying with the idea of using the Australian division at Noumea as a lure for further supply convoys - which my Nells can then torpedo.

Japanese forces CAPTURE Moulmein [Burma] base !!!

Well, Moulmein falls without a fight. Has he abandoned Burma without a fight? I don't know but now my main force will be landing at Moulmein and get into the guts of Burma even more quickly than would otherwise be possible. I give orders to fly one of my airlanding Brigades and an aviation support Bn in as well as 40 Zeroes. Tomorrow should see me able to augment that to more than 80 Zeroes, at which time Moulmein should be able to hold.

John Dillworth: "I had GreyJoy check my spelling and he said it was fine."
Well, that's that settled then.
