The idea that IE11 isn't compatible with W7 is untrue. That said, IE11 attempts to be more standards compliant than prior versions of IE which had, errr, variable compliance with standards. But some sites attempt to workaround or do different things when they spot that the browser is IE and so it can cause issues. That is likely what you were seeing.

Cheers

Except that, as I believe I wrote, rolling back to IE10 - and disabling auto-updates - DID address the navigation issues, of different sorts, I'd been having on civfanatics.com and quora.com.

Without wanting to go OT, that's what I meant. With IE11 those sites were expecting any IE to behave non-compliantly, and thus with IE11 (which is more compliant) they work incorrectly.

what a gong show.......so much for being easy and a better system for H2H game play. if you have to open ports and mess around, whats the point of the lobby? i stopped playing PITF months ago for varoius reasons....game freezes being one of them but i see theres STILL lobby issues for those still playing....honestly you think all that would have been sorted out by matrix by now.
makes you wonder what gateway to caen will be like.

im a supporter of CC and matrix, but really, why do they seem to be going backwards? its very frustrating.

oh ya...TIKs BUGS etc......will there ever be a patch to fix these BUGS?

You couldn't play AT ALL on most routers previously without opening ports - all it does here is provide an alternate routing for people who were having issues (generally because of specific ISP/locations). As far as we know the majority of players can play without issue.

That said, we are always working to get things running smoothly, and so we want to hear from people having issues. I'm not sure why you would respond to this thread which seems to be a very specific issue (taking multiple minutes to get some specific data).

Most of us could get over any lobby issues if there was people in it to play.

well since you asked, i read the thread because of the name 'LOBBY HORRIBLE " [ what PITF player wouldnt? ] and i posted cause of frustration, having stopped playing PITF becasue of game crashes..that and the new requsition system your using now. but your right it was probably a waste of everyones time?
heres some info for you....for some reason most CC players dont post there issues..dont ask me why...example.....Hetser tries to play regularly but him and his opponent have game crashes everytime they play. i tell him to post his problems put he seems to be reluctant. [ we keep in E Mail touch and he was again telling me his crash issues ] he's not the only one...believe me.
perhaps you matrix Gents should regularly hit your game lobby and ASK players if there having issues?

also ..is there going to be an update / patch anytime soon? and did you address TIK's issues he posted in this thread?

TIK's bug reports are a good point. I will chase up whether we managed to replicate the issue.

It's not really practical for the team to sit in a game lobby waiting to ask people if they are having problems. Posting to Tech Support is a fairly well recognised way of making devs aware of any issues people are having.

No need to go OT:

"However, with the web being the most important aspect of computing these days, Windows 8.1's new browser version, IE11, should be an improvement. It's not.

As soon as I started using IE11 I was immediately confronted with incompatibilities and functions that no longer worked. Simple things, like social sharing buttons, reacted so differently that it turned the web against me. IE10 worked great and I was happy. IE11 has forced me to start using another web browser again. And, before you ask…no, it's not Chrome. I will not load the bloated, memory hungry browser on any PC that I own. I'm using my second favorite web browser, Opera. Still, it makes you wonder how many people will be, like me, forced to migrate to a non-Microsoft browser just to get work done. And, once they migrate, a good majority will never come back.

But, I'm not the only one experiencing issues with IE11. Already there are reports of IE11 not working with more important components such as Exchange OWA, Google, and even Outlook.com, and we're not yet a week into the public availability of IE11."

Yes, it refers to Windows 8.1, but I suspect we've both been in IT long enough to have some suspicions, hm?

Quick update -

Having abandoned PiTF, GtC seems to be functioning flawlessly and promptly - and NOTHING has changed on either my or my H2H pal's machines!

If it's not too much of a a bother, might you kindly supply some rough overview of what, if anything, changed and, if so (and I trust you guys are into modular, well-structured programming) can it be retro-fitted to PiTF (which, as a game, is my favorite to date.)

Thank You,
Oz

The direct connection option has been disabled in the initial release of Gateway to Caen, and that is the only significant difference in the networking layer of the release versions.

There is a patch upcoming for Gateway to Caen, which has an updated direct connection mechanism. Assuming this is successful we will likely create an update to Panthers in the Fog as well. I cannot give you a specific time frame for this at present, however.
