Re: Hell to Pay: BTS--Fleet Faction: Japan
We are discussing a mulligan due to my Noble Opponent accidentally leaving his training on for ALL his CVs as he entered the war zone.
This is what I wrote:
I was waiting for a response before voicing thoughts.
Three Options:
1. Declare a mulligan and back up a day. I do orders—you do orders and we replay the turn. This would forewarn me and save your buttkins.
2. Go with the turn but I redo my new orders and draw away so you take ONLY the losses you have gotten. Gives you a day or two to run away with survivors.
3. RE-Start.
Because of the AAR, I really would prefer to not take option three.

Re: Hell to Pay: BTS--Fleet Faction: Japan
Another option would be to have him only do his air unit orders for those CVs. Whether or not just his fighters would be up to the both of you to decide. Only CAP would make his defense harder, while his offensive orders would weaken his defense but I presume you would have some fighters on CAP. I would suggest that you two make an amicable decision but one thing to point out, other than knowing your tactics and strategy, is there any reason for him to think that your carriers or any other combat ships were in the area? Any SigInt information would be useful in the discussion.John 3rd wrote: Fri Mar 29, 2024 7:28 pm We are discussing a mulligan due to my Noble Opponent accidentally leaving his training on for ALL his CVs as he entered the war zone.

Re: Hell to Pay: BTS--Fleet Faction: Japan
Good, good thoughts Sir.
He KNEW I was in the area and was trying to stage an ambush but simply missed the changing of the orders.
While others would have issues with this sort of thinking to me, in the interests of a long-term match, I want to get the best and give the best. Simple mistake and so we redo. It gives him a chance to fix it and also tells me to get the HELL away! My attack was staged from 2 CV and 2 CVL. He has 4 CV and 2 CVE. That would have been UGLY! Better to redo and walk away with CARDIV1 intact...

No answer as of yet from Gregg.

Re: Hell to Pay: BTS--Fleet Faction: Japan
OK. Gregg has decided we back up a day and redo orders. He will fix his obvious air group orders issue while I will RUNAWAY! Time to bring together both CARDIV so I have 4 CV and 3 CVL in one Strike Force.
Will pull back and reorganize. This will allow a set of convoys to get in I am sure but that is OK. Will do that and gather the rest of my CVs together for the SHOWDOWN as we assault Hawaii.

Been busy and haven't had a chance to catch up the AAR. Plan to do that today. Will get it going!
Just sent Gregg the January 19th turn...

Game Notes
Current turn is February 4, 1942
Once Gregg and I figured out what we would do over the not-a-carrier-battle, we have gotten back into the flow of turns. Have to speak to the work Gregg and I did in correcting the issues with the 'not a battle.' Gregg had simply forgotten to change his aircraft from training to attack modes. While I LOVED watching attacks go in and cripple US Carriers, it needs to be RIGHT! It was not so, therefore, we backed up a turn so I could do orders and then he correct his work. We both, WISELY, backed away from each other.
AS Michael has alluded to, I have made a major decision regarding the campaign. Am abandoning the Hawaiian Operation and, instead, going after the 'left hook' into India with the intention of capturing the Calcutta Area triable of bases to gain HI, LI, and forestall the inevitable attack that ALWAYS comes from that area. Additionally, I plan to try to cutoff as many units as possible in Burma and cripple his reinforcements in that region.

Sneak in the back way and capture Karachi! With that base and Socotra (aka Scoodra per Greyjoy) you can capture all of India! His reinforcements from Aden will be vulnerable coming into the Indian Ocean.John 3rd wrote: Mon Apr 15, 2024 1:00 am Game Notes

Re: Hell to Pay: BTS--Fleet Faction: Japan
Hello All.
Haven't posted in a bit due to how fast the turns are flying. Gregg and I are doing 2-3 turns a day during the week and we slow on the weekend to 1/day. Makes keeping the AAR a bit difficult.
Currently March 15, 1942: I am being the India Operation so I need to slow our turns to get the description, plans, and execution described. Am headed to church and with it really, REALLY rainy outside, I hope to go into Operational Planning when I get home.
Apologize for pretty much skipping the last half of the DEI conquest but it has been fairly boring...

India Planning
OK. Time to roll the dice.
Operations kicked off 10 days ago with the beginning of the capture of the shield to prevent seaborne reinforcements/Royal Navy interference with the India Landings.
Diego Garcia was captured first and then Addu Atoll. Japan used the 18th ID for both Operations. The four Kongo BCs provided direct Cover with CAs and CLs mixed in. CAP came from CV Junyo, 2 CVL, and 3 CVE.
The Kido Butai swept around them to the south and provided direct flank support for anything coming up from Karachi. About 20-24 SS are stationed west of Ceylon and patrolling along the western side of India.
Cutting it VERY thin, the 18th and 5th ID will land at Koggala on the 31st. TFs carrying engineering and Base Forces are going to Diego Garcia and Addu to get their AFs up in size to form a barrier against shipping moving west-to-east. About ten days from a 3rd and, if needed, 4th infantry division will land to strengthen the attack on Ceylon.
Akyab and Coxs are empty so they will be grabbed quickly by Paras on the 1st of April with Air units moving there by sea ASAP.
The main landings will then occur with the16th, Imperial Guards, and 38th ID landing at Viza as well as the 21st ID taking Cocanada. Once taken, 6 Tank Regiments will be unloaded with about a dozen more support/artillery units coming ashore. Paras will continue to be used to interdict rapid movement and grab anything uncovered by the enemy.
Two additional ID are available about April 15th or so to reinforce whatever need is greatest.
The goal is to force massed surrenders and gain the economic benefits of the the three cities in the Calcutta area.

Invade Karachi with five divisions plus airborne and then watch it hit the fan.

Ceylon
The 5th and 18th IDs storm ashore at Koggala and find NO RESISTANCE! Fantastic.
Will finish unloading and wait for 2 Engineering units and 3 Base Forces to arrive from Pt Blair. Will get the AF to 2 ASAP as troops move inland. Pictured in the window is the mini-KB covering the landings and TFs.

Indian Ocean
Koggala falls and the Battle for Ceylon is on. A TF of Minelayers will arrive on the 2nd and deposit about 400 little eggs to protect the base hex. There are three Convoys at sea in this area as a large Base Force heads for Diego Garcia, a pair of smaller BF go to Addu, and an Air Flotilla, 2 BF, and 2 Engineer Regiments head for Koggala. There APPEARS to be no resistance at the moment. This will change so I am trying to take advantage of it over the next 34 days to get everything delivered and then pull back to refuel and re-provision to load for the Viza/Cocanada Landings.
Akyab and Coxs are deserted at the moment. Load up some infantry from a Nvl Guard unit to take both bases FAST. Akyab has a Lvl-3 AF and I want that to stage my Paras from.
Kido Butai was never spotted so I am pulling it back to Diego to then move back home to the South Pacific where action is occurring. Once the landings are complete, India will become a predominant ARMY show.
