Hm, i do not think that the allied landing automatically ended any hope... the El Alemain - Battle was it. A defence position in northern africa in the west and a decisious victory in the east (the brits retreating panicly into the desert of arabia) could work....
for that game, also it would be a great loss not to try to make the defence against the americans better...
also, a german breaktrough at el alamin in summer 42 (it could happen with an axis malta) should really automatically start the Torch-Scenario...
Maybe we could manage a Torch-counter with the troops who could be involved in this landings... if you need troops BEFORE a landing could happen (missing shipping capacity) you can take them... on the other hand, if the brits work well and can save troops and capacity in africa, these ships and troops could help to speed up the landing.
Otherwise the germans concentrate their subs in this area and slaughter many more ships as historically (and even this was a costly thing, imagine if 3 or 4 of the huge transporters had been sunk with all hands).
Also, the french troops in africa should have a (not known) counter... maybe the allies get some informations about these conditions (because they tried to come to an agreement)
This could all be very facinating...
i want it - now ! [&o]
Do not delay it [:-]
Oh, i agree about the timeline... with the suggestion that the end should be the start of the landing in italy.... (maybe the brits want to invade greece, a nice version, or reconquer crete
Here a few new ideas
1.) The germans aren´t involved untill one of some things happen
a.) greece get support from the brits
b.) italian troops get kicked by the brits in africa (historical move)
c.) a special date (we do not know, a counter of loss ratio etc...)
2.) A raid against Gibraltar through spain (land attack) could only work in a what if scenario, naval invasion methods are otherwise the only method.
3.) A quick invasion against the french fleet could also ordered OR if the brits attack the french fleet they could change flag freely (also what if...)
4.) The brits get the chance of more heavies if they loose em in the med. Just think about the carriers heavily damaged by stukas... if they went down, the brits need more carriers (and had recived them....) But no bismark/tirpitz raid into gibraltar (even if i like this idea of a world war campagin, europe AND pacific... from 1939 to the end.... hehe... this is the final game (complex like witp) and you controll anything.
just dreaming

Hi, The easiest Victory condition would be to decide just what each side had to accomplish and then award victory to the side that meets it's objectives or a draw after a certain date if both have failed.
Victory in the game is decided by this regardless of history.
Define the Axis objective in Africa 1940-1943
Define the Allied objective in Africa 1940-1943
If the Axis objective is simply to maintain a presence in Africa then the Allies need to throw them out to win. If the Allied objective is to protect the Suez canal and their links to other Allied areas then the Axis need to secure the canal.
Anything else would be a draw.
The Axis position becomes somewhat impossible after the American landings in Tunisia so I would say the Axis have until then to meet whatever objectives we assign.
I would set the campaign game to run from Italy's declaration of war to the US landing in Tunisia
Don't tickle yourself with some moralist crap thinking we have some sort of obligation to help these people. We're there for our self-interest, and anything we do to be 'nice' should be considered a courtesy dweebespit
