He's more like HAL9000, not from Urbana, IL but at least from the same state of Illinois.

Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA graphics. One of the new additions for mapping is the rivers and canals hexes that allow water units to travel up and down them (and perform naval assaults onto the sides). Below is a screenshot that shows how the canals/rivers can be assigned background hex types to add to the ambience of the map. The blue areas are with the enhancement, the red areas are still without.

Nice Jason, Very Nice![:)]

So its like having two terrain types within a hex as example rice paddy and canal.

I take it the TEM would still be the paddy? Or is something else in mind?[;)]

Glad you think so, Andrea!

We won't be covering every battle under the sun, for obvious reasons, but we are aiming to have a very good representation of the conflict and the decades it spanned.

Campaign Series Vietnam: Now the My Tho master map is complete, I can dive in on the scenarios. Here's a snapshot of the CSVN Organization editor and the structures of the opposing forces for the Battle of Ap Bac, Jan 2, 1963.

Campaign Series Vietnam: Alpha Graphics.

As progress continues on the new master map for the III Corps area, I am coming across areas that I have been reading about. For example, these two battle sites during Operation JUNCTION CITY in early 1967.

Working with East Front, I thought it could be handy to have a "definitive" color palette to use in the game UI.
ORIGINAL: Crossroads

Meanwhile, I will create a full Pallette of German WW2 Camo Colors, with white tint in place, similar to what I did to MERDC colors, here.

The MERDC palette turned out really nice, with matching colors, so likely I will just use them for the Modern set of games, in UI, and elsewhere, while WW2 games would be around the German camo set. East Front "Panzergrau" (RAL 7021), and West Front perhaps Dunkelgelb. Pacific Front would be unique, on US WW2 Marines colors, parhaps.

And here goes! These are tinted one step from templates I used, 3D images might benefit from another tint towards white.
Image

Those DAK 1941 camo colors should match the Tiger I at Bovington museum, so looking at this it is a nice match for painting a full real tank perhaps, but likely our 3D unit image artists indeed still need to tint those hues a bit for the scale.

And while on topic regarding East Front, here's some early versions of the sidebar art. The game will default to Barbarossa theme, but there will be user interface mods to spiff the game for playing the Poland and Finland scenarios.

TGIF!

And with that, here's a little something I am working at the moment: a master map for the operations around Tolvajarvi in December, 1939. I created a quick mock-up scenario to set the conditions for winter to see how it'd look there.

The peculiar screenshot is from my ultrawide 21:9 monitor I use for work (I resized it here to fit normal resolutions). Not quite 4K, but thereabouts. 4K seems to be around corner, with our Vietnam survey from ca year ago telling us there's already like 10% of our community with 4K monitors, so important to test that out, too.

Anyhow, most all hands are at Campaign Series: Vietnam, but just a reminder things will cool down rather extensively from those battles in humid jungle as CS: East Front 1939-1941 will feature as the release after Vietnam.

Have a great weekend everyone!

And here's how it looks inside the current Campaign Series: East Front 1939-1941 ALPHA, with Winter War UI Art Mod in place.

Latest ALPHA exes today, with the new WW2 specific colored toolbar based on the German camo patterns shown earlier. Again: everythings in ALPHA stage at the moment, so everything likely to change.

That's the 2D Strategic Zoom-Out View (smallest availabe) by the way, so the whole map visible.

You're welcome! One more technical detail: that's an original of 3440 x 1440 screenshot with 125% display scaling setting, resized to 1200 x 500, roughly. Nice to see the Large Toolbar fits one row, for instance [:)]

Oh, and the map size was 140 x 80 hexes. "Small and cute", as Jason called it, I am not at this level yet lol.
