Distant Worlds: Shadows
RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows
Throw having a disaster at your home colony into the mix as well...things get very...interesting. Having a -220k income has led to coming up with some creative ways to make money. I'm not restarting the game, gonna step up to the challenge and see if I can turn things around.

Not at home at moment so can't check but doesn't the description of Grav weapons say something about them being more effective against smaller ships? Does the Grav weapon attack value decrease against bigger ships or something?
ORIGINAL: Erik Rutins
Just FYI, the best defense against Gravity weapons and tractor beams is longer range weapons, speed, stand-off posture and countermeasures.
Shield and armor will not help.

That's true, gravitic weapons are more effective against smaller ships.

Part of it is smaller ships having fewer components to damage. I've also found gravitic weapons to be very effective at damaging the hyperdrive.

RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows
i got a question. what does one do with abandoned ships found during exploring? i found a destroyer in my system and was hoping for some sort of event that will allow me to use it (i saw that happening on a youtube dw legends gameplay) but despite parking my ship on top of that abandoned one, nothing happened. As i am playing in the age of shadows, is there a certain tech i should get before i am able to get this ship? like that one with boarding parties?

If the found ship is damaged, you need to repair it before you get the popup that you've acquired it.
It's a bit of an investment if you really want it. If it's close by, go for it. [8D]
RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows
Some of the ships you find will have to be repaired before they can be enlisted and used. Those ships will require sending a construction ship to repair and get them back in operation. This is working as intended.
There are two types of ships you can find in DW. Ships that were abandoned but are in perfect working order, and derelicts that are badly damaged from battle, but still reasonably intact. Abandoned ships are the only ones that can be immediately crewed and join a fleet. And sometimes you will find groups of ships that have both types together. Also, your big world destroyers will almost always have at least 1 ship in the group that can be crewed immediately, with all others needing repair....but the key is you have to find them before another empire does.

Do keep in mind that the AI eventually will repair those damaged ships you find, but it is very low priority (getting mines built and resources is top priority for the AI). The one exception to that rule are the world destroyers, the AI prioritizes repairing those above everything else. The nice thing is that you can manually select a construction ship and give it a command to repair a ship, and it will over-ride the AI priorities...at least for the one ship you select for repair. The manually way is even better done by selecting the constructor, targeting the ship and using ctrl+right click to queue next mission...that way it finishes what it is currently working on before moving to repair the ship you want repaired.

I'm enjoying the new expansion a lot. Having a blast playing early Shadows empire. Pirates everywhere and my economy is not very good making for a challenge.

what "Resolution of the multiple stages of a planetary assault" mean ?
i don't get "resolution" part. Display Resolution ? Resolution as Resolve ?or what ?
different result on each stage ?

Results of the different stages, I assume. Or seeing the progress of each stage (not just the end result).ORIGINAL: Mad Igor

RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows
The main thing that reflects is that there is now a phase where orbital defenses (i.e. space ports) shoot at the invading troops, then there's a phase where the ground defences (especially planetary defense units) shoot at them as they are landing in assault pods, then there's the actual combat on the ground. This gets repeated for each wave of reinforcements and there are also now interactions between the troop types in terms of targeting and relative strengths as well as the influence of space control around the planet that make a ground battle much more dynamic so that it can also have multiple stages.

RE: Distant Worlds: Shadows
what i like in DW and what lack EVERY space x4 out there - true mystery of the galaxy.
you never know what next day will pop up in your system or what will happen and happening on the other side of the galaxy.yea, you hear me right, other x4 not shrouded in shadows...it clear as a day what happening cuz things are limited to their limited gameplay. based on that you can predict what probably happening next to you. well,in DW isn't totally a mystery, but because of HUGE probabilities it's difficult to tell what is next to you.
without this thrill of mystery of "what coming next ??" most of x4 nowaday is a chore (stardrive for example(best example tbh)).
dunno why devs think, that exploring a galaxy is not that important, but as a player and a big fan of x4 i can tall - exploring a galaxy is a 50% of what make me enjoy it.
DW atm is BEST game, that can deliver it.
with shadows it become even more epic.
PS: there is a second x4 that i'm wet to see
(hint: Rebirth).
