Coop?

Close Combat - Cross of Iron is based on Atomic Games award Winning Close Combat Series. Close Combat is a real time game were you take command of German or Soviet squads on the Eastern Front during World War II. This version is being developed by CSO Simtek and will include many new features and improvements.

Coop?

Post by Llyranor »

Hi,

First off, great news. Close Combat is very nice.

Now, the question at hand. Essentially, it sounds like the mp will be pretty much 1v1. Is there any possibility for coop to be implemented? It could just be two players tackling the AI. In terms of splitting things, it could simply be that the squads are divided amongst the players.

I imagine this would be quite a feat to implement, but I think - ultimately - this could potentially lead to many more sales, especially from old CC gamers. After all, coop would be a completely new feature and make the experience quite difference. I know coop would turn this from something I'd keep an eye on to an must-buy on day1.

Thanks!

This is a great idea! I'd love to play CC coop. One player controlling the infantry, the other taking care of the tanks, maybe. Cool [8D]

Coop would be great. Instead of inf/tank, I'd have each person controlling one of the five unit groups. (Assuming it is still 15 units per side on the map). Each person could have goals (wait until the 3 minute mark, then go for the crossroad, I'll push from the west at the same time, etc...), that may need to be changed when the plans come under enemy fire.

That's a great idea! The problem is always that platoon at the other side of the map (or the tank stuck behind the church ;)). Coop would sure solve a lot of those problems. It's maybe there already in the USMC version?

Good luck with the game!

Hi Guys

We are working on 6 and 8 player mode but I do not think it will make it in this version.

That's good to hear. (That you are working on it that is...). I think 6 player version would be ideal, unless therer are plans to increase the number of units on map.

There are 2 directions that coop can go.  One is to have massively multiplayer (more than 1x1).  This already exists in 2 of the Military derivatives (CCM and CCRAFRegt) which support 5x5.  We could make it more, but there is no specific mandate to do that atm.

The other is to have coop AI.  This would allow the ability to manage more Teams without the need to micromanage everything, which would become exceedingly tiresome with a large battle group imo.

I find the prospect of coop AI hugely interesting, but not a little challange to be sure! [:)]

I think this game, due to the large number of its followers, would lend itself to a vs. coop mode. I wouldn't even bother to make a coop against the AI. The AI is already easily beatable for one, imagine for two or more...

Agree with that, I might play AI a couple times to get the feel for the maps and interface, but after that is is ONLY pbem.

I've been waiting for coop mode for ages, it would really be something extraordinary :)
Players could share units in the pool and if AI is bad, then let there be option for AI to have more troops so the challenge won't be that much of a problem.

I really, really hope cooperative campaign mode makes it into Close Combat series, I like coop very much in strategy games like Hearts of Iron 2 which is also realtime game. I also had great fun with CC IV and CC V where I used to share control of battlegroups which each of us having certain section of front to take care of.
I know also a dozen other guys who are mostly coop players so this can't just be a phenomenon among a niche audience.

That is our intention (and not just in Strategic mode either), though it will not happen with the re-releases.

I'm curious whether the number of units and the size of the maps will be increased? For me that's the biggest issue. I did love the old CC-series, but I would have prefered more units.
