Coral Sea Scenario

Post by JudgeDredd »

Playing as American, do you really not get any ground reinforcements? 'cos I'm struglling to see where I can get troops from to shore up Gili Gili, Port Morseby and Laguna.

I looked in the ground reinforcements screen and was surprised to see there are none....so I don't totally understand the objective of this scenario. I thought it was to stop the Japanese taking the aforementioned islands...did I read it wrong? Am I meant to do it with air power alone?

Thx for the help

the AI won't attack Noumea, you can split the Americal Division and move it to Lunga and Gili Gili. If you don't lose your carriers, you'll win...

Read your history books. There was a reason that the battle is considered such a significant event.

Check www.wikipedia.com and look up "The Battle of the Coral Sea". It will give you quick details, there.

But really, there is nothing finer than a goooood book.

It's been a year since I played this scenario and memory is foggy ... but IIRC Japan only has to take Buna to win, and the Allied player has no way to stop it without running his carriers right up to Rabaul.

The CS scenario is too short for reinforcements. It's IIRC only about two weeks in length.

That's just about stopping the Japanese player on his attack on Port Moresby. Most of the other stuff (Buna, Lunga, but Gili too) are just simply out of reach of the American player, even if in the game, just like historically, speeding your CVs, you can expect to bounce the ships of the Lunga expedition while they are landing troops. Victory must be achieved in preventing the japanese attack on PM and sinking as many of his carriers as possible, while not

Historical toll is 1 CV sunk (Lex), 1 CV damaged (York), 1 DD and 1 AO sunk on the American side, and 1 CVL (Shoho), 1 CV damaged (Shokaku), 1 DD, 2 PG and 1 AP sunk on the japanese side, not to mention the air losses. All objectives but the most important (PM) were met by the Japanese command. Can you do better, Judge? Good luck [:)]

If memory serves me right, i've won this scenario by defending lunga and gili gili. But i've played with "Historical First Turn" off. Gili Gilli and Lunga invasion TFs were completely wiped out. Used LBA to sink ships invading Buna. No battle between carriers....
