CTD - Thermopylae: Spartans at the Gates

Post by Ogontion »

Hi,

I'm on day 4 of this battle, and a crash occurs at 8:59am - just as my units are getting to the exit hexes and the battle is turning in my favour. . . I've also reinstalled the game and the latest patch, but it still crahes at this point. THis is the only crash I've experienced and so far I've tried going back a few hours, but the result is always the same. I've played all battles in chronological order up to this one. I've skipped ahead to Crete rather than start this one over.

I get one of those annoying Microsoft messages before the CTD, although a couple of times it's gone right to the CTD.

THanks for checking this out - you'll have recieved my savegame. Apart from this, I'm really enjoying COTA and it blows away other games using this scale - which I won't even bother to mention.

Regards

Hello Dave,

Just so you know I also had a couple of crashes playing that scenario, but could not reproduce them. Since it is one of my "favourites" at present, in case it happens again is there a point in sending you the savegame or are you only interested in crashes that can be reproduced?

If the CTD occured when abridge was finished building, then we know that one and it's fixed in the upcoming patch 3. We're onto build 145 now and hope to release it shortly. If it was for anything else, then yes send it to me.

Hi,

Thanks, I had mistakenly sent it to support@matrixgames.com. My report is winging its way to you right now. AFAIK there was no bridge construction happening aound the time of the crash.

Ralph,

A most unusual bug. I could get it to repeat in the Patch release version but not in the Patch 2 debug version. That is exceedingly rare and left me with almost no means of debugging it. However, a lot of water has flown under the bridge since Patch 2 ( build 141 ). We are currently about to put build 146 for the upcoming Patch 3. I have just tested the new release version with your saved game and you will be pleased to hear that it ran through with no problems. I can only assume that the bug was one of those we have since fixed.

As I said we have been busy honing things down and we do hope to release Patch 3 shortly. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Arjuna,

Thanks for taking a look at that! As I said, that's the only time I've encountered anything like that in COTA. I couldn't think of anything in my config that would have caused it. I'll hang onto the savegame and look forward to running it to the bitter end with the new patch. That is a killer scenario, and one which I'll certainly be revisiting, especially if I barely squeeze through this time. Thanks for this incredible series.
