Problems with SP:WaW-General Ed

Post by Rascayu »

Hello, folks!

I got an original cd of "Steel Panthers: WaW - General's Edition" some time ago, and I've found some problems with this game. When I start to play some MC's ("Watchtower" or "Screamin' Eagles", for instance), there's a failure and a message which says something like "Read Error Data -or file- OBB [##]", and the game stops. On other occasions, the game freezes during the battle (I've observed this uses to happen while artillery and tanks, or bunkers, are fighting), too. I've checked the updates, the patches and the mods in order to se if they have something to do with this problem, but the failure keeps on happening, anyway.

Is there any way to solutionate those problems? Thanks a lot![;)]

Couple questions:

1. Was this a clean install of the the GE or did you install it into a previous SP Directory? If the latter then you may want to do a fresh, clean install as installing files over older ones can sometimes lead to certain files becoming corrupted.

2. You may want to go into the Main SP Directory and find the mech.exe file and make a new shortcut to the desktop. Sometimes the mech command can go south on you during install.

3. Make sure any patches were loaded into the correct folder.

4. Are you running any Mods like Enhanced?

I don't remember exactly now, but I think I made a clean install (maybe I'm confused about it). I'll try to install as you suggest.

Yes, I realized of it ... and it was solutionated then [:)]
3. Make sure any patches were loaded into the correct folder.

Yes, I checked that, and it's OK.
4. Are you running any Mods like Enhanced?

The only Mod I use is one called "Depot Multi Mod Vehicle ver.2", but the problem I told is happening before instlling that Mod (BTW, a very good mod).

Thank you for your help! [;)]

Hello again,

I've reinstalled again SP:WaW General's v8.20, without adding any patch or mod. When I load a saved game in MC "Watchtower" and "Screamin' Eagles", I get the next message again:

"Error: Unable to Load OBB (number) Data"

Any solution to this? [&:]

Thanks for your help again [:)]

when you try to load the save you are hitting "mega Campaign" when you start the game right?

Hi!

First, I run SP ("Mech.exe"), then I hit "Mega-cap" button, then I load the saved game... the intro to the mission appears, I accept it and then... voilà! the message "Error: Unable to Load OBB (number) Data" appears. I think I'm doing the correct steps, don't I?

Is any patch fixer or anything like it for this? Am I the only one with this problem? [:(]

Thanks again! [:)]

I have never had that problem...however...if yuou upgrade to 8.403...in that version is a adderd feature that allows you to save a mega campaign game whenevr you want to just by hitting the save button...perhaps that might help?

Hello again!,

I've installed the v8.403 patch, and it still goes awry... I've observed that it uses to fail in "MC IV" when I use the 501st (at Bastogne) an the Glider Reg., and in "MC: Watchtower" happens from the beginnings, everytime I play with a recent saved game file... I'm desperate, 'cause I'd like to keep on playing the same game (due to my success campaign, mainly) and don't start it again!!

More ideas or help? Thanks! [;)]

Rascayu: Have you tried shutting down any thing you don't need while playing SPwaw, ie: Virus checkers, SPwaw is amemory hog and looks for all it can get. Worth a try.  Good Luck.
