Just Deserts in the Desert

Post by RayWolfe »

MaMa, just killed a man.
Put a gun up to his head.
Pulled my trigger NOW I'M DEAD!!!
Not right.

Anyway, odds said he would die and I would live but that's not what happened.
Disappointed ...

The nasty little blue dice! Counter battery fire. [:@] Always look out for it when attacking artillery with your artillery.

Thanks for that ... now if only we had a tutorial or manual that told us that in a comprehensive way. [&:]
Now where do I look for that blue dice and how does it work? Or what page in the manual explains it?
Cheers

If you look at the sceenshot you just posted there is a small blue dice in the bottom left hand corner next to to the step losses. Before you lost the step a clicked the resolve combat button, that dice was in the same place but you still had your step.

If you look at any indirect/direct fire units Defense bar there is a purple/blue dice in it. This is the units chance of causing a step loss when attacked. It is explained on page 57 of the manual. Its also explained in JSS's tutorial.

Thanks Howard, I see the pesky bugger now. Of course it's explained in the manual, how naughty of me to only look in the Combat part before posting! I promise to look harder next time. ;-)
Thanks again.

Hehe, the manual isnt the best [;)] But between that, JSS tutorial, this forum and the RUN5 SSG forum you should not have any problems finding out any hard to find rules. I just hope everyone reads this. In fact you have just given me an idea!

Yep, I just wish JSS could find the time to finish his tutorial, or better still SSG, who are usually magnificent in this regard, did a better manual.
I've been playing computer wargames since the mid 80s, including all of SSGs games (I do mean all). This iteration of BF must be the deepest and most complex and really needs a lot of handholding. You mention all the reference points, and I read them all, trouble is, at my age, I can't store it all in my RAM (very random) so I need a good, clear, indexed point of referral that I can dip into when needed.

ORIGINAL: RayWolfe

I just wish JSS could find the time to finish his tutorial, or better still SSG,
While additional tutorials would undoubtedly be helpful to many, I'm confident JSS will eventually get around to putting the finishing touches on his tutorial series when he can. Between the manual, JSS' current tutorials, informative posts here and within SSG's Run5 forums, there's a lot of helpful information available. If you still have a question, posting it here or at Run5 will usually get you an answer fairly quickly.

With respect to the current state of the manual, well, I cautiously cast my accusatory glance in CAWs direction. ;)
