Can Pure sim do what I want?.....

Post by badrazor2007 »

O.k., guys, this is what I want in a nutshell. Please tell me which of these puresim can meet:

1) I want to play a single season league with teams from all different era's. '86 Mets, '06 Cubs, '27 Yankees etc....
2) I want to be able to edit the teams and players
3) I want to just manage the team through the season without worrying about finances, player happiness etc.
4) I don't want other teams making trades or changing their roster.
5) I want updated player stats on screen as I go. (ie. player is batting .250 (1-4) for the season and gets a hit. I want to see him batting .400 on his next at bat if he got a hit last at bat)
6) I want the players to finish reasonably close up or down to the historical year they played. If i have the '85 Mets where Doc Gooden was 24-4 with a 1.53 ERA, when my league is done I'd like him close to those numbers. Something like 18-10 2.52 would be acceptable but not something like 10-14 4.42.

If Puresim can do all that, then I will buy it on the spot. Could somone please respond with some answers, I'd greatly appreciate it. OOTP2007 is so hard to make do what I want even though I know it has the capability.

Go ahead and get your credit card out.

1) Absolutely. Use the Sandbox mode to import anyone from any season, even entire teams. It may take a couple of "trial and errors" to gete comfortable with it.

2) Yes. You can set up as Multiplayer, but LEAVE ALL TEAMS UNDER HUMAN CONTROL and don't enter any FTP information....or you use other setups and simply edit players as you see fit. The advantage of the Multiplayer under human control is that YOU will control the promotions, demotions, etc. for all of the teams. The game's AI will do this for you under other setups. You may or may not like what the AI does with the lineups. Using the Multiplayer setup, YOU control all of the lineups.

3) Simply choose to NOT use finances during your association set-up phase. All players will be under a reserve contract unless YOU move them.

4) During the set-up phase, choose "AI trades OFF". This works hand-in-hand with the "Finances Off", allowing you to keep players where YOU want them. You will also have an option to turn injuries ON or OFF. Choose carefully here, as it will have an impact on your Question #6.

5) These update automatically after each at-bat, both for batters and pitchers. You will see them change on the screen as you play.

6) Youneverknow. A player will perform based on a variety of factors. The players have a baseline to work from, which is tied to their "Import Year". For example, if you imported Doc Gooden during his rookie season, he will normally be fantastic and stay great for a LOOOOOng time, since he started at age 19 (I think). I had an association where he pitched to about age 40 and was a Hall-of Famer. Had he suffered a serious injury during my play, things would have turned out differently. Not meaning to get long-winded, but if YOU decide that Gooden needs to lose some of that ability, due to (sniff) some reason or another, simply force retire him and import a Gooden from another year.

By all means, check out the posts on this board. I personally looked through here for about a week before taking the plunge. Three years later, I can honestly say that this is one of the best entertainment purchases I have ever made. Just about any problem you encounter can be addressed by another user or the game's programmer.

I've done a couple of long replays where I feel proud to say that the stats produced by Pure Sim are more than acceptable when compared to real MLB. Look through The Locker to see several associations in progress by various users.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.

PS: Have an idea of the type association you want to create BEFORE you start importing players. Know how many teams/leagues/divisions you'll want in advance. Name your league(s), team(s), division(s), then import those players or teams where you want them. Until you get comfortable with the set-up process, make backups of your .PSA file, as needed.

Important: Unless you change the stadiums or schedule yourself, the program will use defaults and you may not be happy with them. You can find real MLB stadiums by the dozens, both within the program itself AND from other users, posted on this board. You may import, say, the 1985 Mets. Unless modified by YOU, the program will give you something like Mets Field, with random dimensions. It is no trouble, though, for you to re-name the stadium, change the dimensions, etc. You can also just find the program's Shea Stadium and use it. You can make stadium changes/mods any time, even during the season.

For schedules, I have had good success with skeds imported from OOTP. You can get hundreds of them from their site, or from retrosheet (included in this program). Just post on this site with any problem you encounter and someone will help you (and quickly, unless they're in the middle of their own pennant race).

Motnahp, that's as good a synopsis of PS as I've ever read. [;)]
