can't access surface for lock

Hi, I just downloaded the game, and am running it in Windows 98 compatible. All is well till the first map appears and then i get this error "can't access surface for lock" - Can anybody give me a suggestion on how to fix this? New to the forum, so I apologize if this has already been asked. Any help would be much appreciated.

This is a video driver error.

Do you have up to date drivers?

What specs are your machine?

What screen resolution are you playing at.

The simple fix is to disable your direct draw features.

1. Click START

2. RUN

3. Type: DXDIAG (press enter)

4. now click DISPLAY

5. Disable DIRECTDRAW ACCELERATION (refer to image below) It will ask you to confirm, press "OK"
