You don't have to mod it.
Just go to options and change figures to counters with symbols :)

Thanks but my counters with symbols are lightly different than those are provided in the game.

And just to make sure: In what way are they different? Symbols, colours, something else?

I have lightly modified symbols and the shape of counters.
Colors are hard coded, I think.

I liked what you did. I took it one step further by accenting the units a bit more in the center. I also colored aircraft a blue tint in the center to distinguish them. Also I added labels to the ships CV, BB, CA, SS, TR, TA accordingly.

Here is a screenshot

I like those wink; where can we get a copy? Also curious as to how you got it to color the NATO symbol depending on the nationality - or is this just a mock-up?

I used fireworks to add a shade of gray inside the nato symbols. It seems the program simply blended the color together with the gray... I didnt expect that.

Ok I uploaded the file.

I also combined the original map with the classic cities and resources for a better look. I will probably mess around with all the graphics experimenting with one thing or another. I added that file too. I play with the grid so thats the only one I modified.

One thing my web designer wife told me is to make all things in the computer world user friendly and just pretty enough.  Thats what I do :)

Fortunately, colors are not hardoded. They are in plain text in countries.csv file. Some headers of tihs file are in polish (this will be changed in 1.20) but you'll easily find four columns called Color1, Color2, Color3, Color4.

Color 1 - used to fill the counter
Color 2 - color of the strength-AP figures (counters mode)
Color 3 - used to fill the oval figure base (figures mode)
Color 4 - color of the strength-AP figures (figures mode)

So I guess another step to improve counters would be to come up with alternative symbols for eack armoured tech step rather than rely on the small square symbols?

Heres a sample I made up using standard and some home made symbols. I like the JMass improvements by the way as well.

You could but the dots already tell you what level the tank is along with its actual strength.

A possible better play would be to write in small letters Pz II, Pz III, Pz IV.  But here again it really makes no sense because a tank group consists of so many different types of tanks, from light to heavy.  The tech would reflect what a significant # of the tanks are consisted of.

Id love to change the Axis colours from Grey with black writing to the SS black with white writing. Any help????

White: ;FFFFFF Black: ;000000

But the actual counter art and border to the bottom and right of the counter is on a seperate file in Black so i cant seem to do it. Also the seperate file with the counter art has a white background. How do i get around this to make the counter art white without disturbing the counter art for every country?

See image below...

All the counters share the same image file for the NATO symbols. To get the white symbol on black, you'd need to graphically change that on .png file - however, all the counters from all nationalities would then have white colored NATO symbols on them.

For soviets counters I prefer a yellow color 2 CCFF00
