Things to build atmosphere

Touchdowns - I think TD celebrations can make for a great addition to the ingame atmosphere. Spike the ball, dunk on the crossbar, polish the OL's helmet, generic simple celebrations like that.

Pregame - One thing that would be great for a pregame sequence (there really isn't one currently) is where all the players get in a mass huddle and start jumping around all hyped up for a beatdown.
"WHAT TIME IS IT?"
"GAME TIME!"

It would be nice, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. The reason is the current animations are awful as it is and need improvement, before we go off and add new touchdown celebrations.

Both items would be nice.

They have been brought up either in the private forum or with the developer in emails.  Time constrainst are once again an issue.

It's too bad the models and animations are not open for the mod community.  Imagine what some of the big time modders could do with that.

Yeah, I think letting those be up for editing would be a nice step for an increase in presentability.

There were two issues to consider with having the models open for editing or modding; IP issues, and crash issues.

Intellectual property (IP) issues would not be a problem, as they are not for any game that allows mods, because as long as the models were done by the modders, they would become part of the game when added to the game, as they are for Half Life and other games that encourage mods.

Crash issues are more of a problem, as modded models or animations could have caused game engine problems, and David didn't want to deal with those.  On the other hand, if David had stated that he would not deal with mod problems of that sort, it would have removed the burden from him.

At a point, animations would have had to be dealt with because the game needs triggers for animations, but if the modding community was to the point that it had a good enough set of tested models and animations, it would have been a good idea to go ahead and put them into the game.

As far as animations and touchdown celebrations are concerned, I believe David had considered and worked on a few more, but they needed more time or testing before being added to the game.  How far along they were, I do not know.  Perhaps he will add more animations for 3.0.
