Multiplayer Campaign?

Post by CrushU »

I know it isn't in the game itself...

But that doesn't stop Battletech players from having campaigns above and beyond just what is played out. Couldn't we?

I'd been trying for a while to come up with some sort of system for this to be used in a Pencil&Paper type of game (like DnD) but after a while I thought that I'd need to code a whole game for this, there's so many calculations... One of the things I was using was the ToS idea of a ticking clock and Attack/Move actions that take certain seconds... I liked that system and wanted to use it. Unfortunately it meant the conclusion above; No way is anyone going to keep track of this by hand.

So, after realizing that I play in a Battletech campaign that has a small book of rules to govern Between Action events... I thought maybe something could be done like that here.

Refresh my memory: If you take a normal team (that is, not a tourny team) into a multiplayer match, do they still earn skillpoints and money? What if they face a tourny team? Is there any way to award money/skill to a player team in a multiplayer match? (In theory, if you fought NPCs in this campaign, whoever's administrating the campaign (currently that'd be me) would play the NPC forces, instead of the AI. ... More fun that way. :p AI is a choice for when alot of people wanna go hit the NPCs... But hitting NPCs under AI, the Gamemaster could just make up a Mission file and throw that at the person. But what about multiplayer?)

Huh. Wonder if that would work... If you could make a mission that is basically 'Move a mech here' and get xp/$$ for completing it, can you make it so it's only doable Once by any particular team? GM could award the appropriate things for a match in that way...

Anyway, this is a sound-out to see if anyone would be interested in such a thing. My basic idea is to have Two Factions (at least at first) and each player pilots Titans for that Faction, ideally I was thinking four, but up to the max of eight would be fine. I'm wavering between having each player decide what they want to do in a game Turn (that is; Attack this Planet, etc) or having a Faction Leader decide on general missions that need to be done, and Players picking from that pool, with AI/GMs playing the remaining missions... About four or five worlds to be conquered, winner of the campaign is the one that holds all worlds. ... At least at first, while it starts out and I get the hang of how to work rules for this....

So. Anyone interested?
