De spirits are not happy

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you command of a squad of specialists for hire in the genre’s biggest game-world yet: the African country Diamond Coast. Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda. Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes. Choose “jobs” from different factions and complete them for cash to upgrade your weapons and hire more elite soldiers of fortune.

De spirits are not happy

Post by SlickWilhelm »

It's day 7. Things were going along so well until day 6. I had just taken the mines on day 5, and was waiting for that $20,000 to roll in on the morning of day 6 so that I could start buying more defense units for the dam and the other sectors.

Well, at the stroke of 00:00 on day 6, the miners struck. This left me with fewer available funds than a Wall Street hedge fund, causing Shaman and Bizon to split.

To make matters worse, the dictator's minions attacked and captured the detour road sector from me, since I had no forces there whatever.

Thinking that it would be a cake walk to retake it, I sent one of my five-strong Merc squads to retake it. Unfortunately, it would seem that the dictator's forces weapons were upgraded recently, and I found myself out-gunned and out-numbered. Before I was able to successfully recapture the sector, I almost lost my namesake, "Slick" Wilhelm Clinton. He was actually dying and down to about 3 hp's before Dragon risked his life and managed to stop the bleeding, while under fire. Luckily, a few well-thrown grenades saved the day.

While this squad recovered in the Mines sector, I dispatched my other squad to the train station to bolster the remains of the defense unit I purchased, and which had been whittled down in numbers by a previous attack.

Meanwhile, the dictator's forces approached the dam. Assuming that my purchased defense force there could handle things, I watched as the dictator's forces promptly destroyed the dam's defenses and captured it.

Shortly thereafter, more dictator minions captured the completely undefended road block sector from me. Yes I know, I would've had a defense force there too, IF there were funds to do so. Alas, the cupboards are bare.

Thus, my currently situation finds me with a net daily profit of about 4K, but I'm not up to 15K yet to be able to purchase another defense force. When I logged off last night, my 5 merc squad guarding the train station is under attack and is fighting for it's life.

And all of this on the easy difficulty level!

Perhaps Shaman was right. "De spirits are not happy".

The only thing left to do now is lock-n-load and

did you break the strike ?

Yep. But I'm still netting only about 4K a day due to expenses. I guess I need to cut out those last-minute shopping trips to DJ's!

Well, I spent all day today getting my sectors back. Successfully defended the Rail station, recaptured the road block, defended the road block from an attack, then lost the undefended road detour(again). I decided not to risk defending the road detour with my small 3 merc squad that's defending the mines, because it seems the bad guys can travel right through sectors, and I can't tell which sector they're going to actually attack.

I can also certify that enemies do throws grenades after the patch. Jabby had one land between his legs! Thanks to his combat armor and titanium jock strap, he survived(barely), but lost 20pts of agility and his singing voice is an octave higher.
Jabby now spends his time backing up the defense force at the rail station. I don't know if he'll ever be really useful again. Most likely he'll be part of a garrison for the duration.

I also hired Shaman back, so "De spirits are happy".

Slick do you engage in combat with your mercs fully healed aka green bar or you make do with patched up mercs pink bars? I notice my doctor-patient thing doesn't work fast enough, and am tempting to go in with pink bars!

Well, it's the red bar that's the health bar. But yes, I only engage in combat when all my mercs are full red. There's no real time limit to the game(except for two specific "missions"), so it's ok to wait for your mercs to heal. Just make sure that the a merc with the highest medical skill is set as the "doctor" role, and that all wounded mercs are set as "patients". Then just turn the game clock on and wait.

I managed to defeat the dictator and get a win for Janus on easy.   Won't go into details due to spoiler material.  If you want any further info..pm me.   I am now working on a normal campaign with the marauder faction.
