Another try ...

Based on Atomic Games’ award-winning Close Combat series, Close Combat: The Longest Day brings together the classic top-down tactical gameplay from the original series and plenty of new features, expansions, and improvements! The Longest Day remake comes with a brand new Grand Campaign that covers all the airborne and beach landings, expanded map sizes, new hand-drawn historical maps, illumination during night battles and much more!

Another try ...

Have all 5 of the old Close Combat series (CCII still my overall favorite; CCIII was quite nice too in that you could create your own campaigns), played the heck out of them until I got this Vista machine that won't let me even load the old games. The only thing holding me back on another purchase is the price, better than $60 after shipping if you want the disk. Anybody found a less expensive way to get the disk? The Digital River site has a spot for a promo code, any idea if there are any promotions that would make any kind of dent in the price tag of this game?

I've got about $80 in total for the previous 5 games; adding another $60 seems a bit steep for one game. No offense to the CSO nor Matrix; CSO kept me playing CCIII for years, with all of the map downloads to make new custom campaigns.

The option I went with was to get it by digital download then burn it to my own disk. With all of Matrix's Digital Express releases I don't see much benefit in buying the physical version as there is no printed manual. Also for CCTLD I've allready been able to download for free the Battle of the Bulge campaign mod which has pretty much given me two games for the price of one.

I haven't found anything cheaper, but I didn't really look for cheaper deals.

Price per hour spent playing CC is pretty darn low. Not as low at WITP, but a close second.

Yeah the purchase price is pretty cheap compared to the electric bill one gets from playing this game!
