Just to know. Will there be another improvement patch?

From the legendary team at 2 by 3 Games comes a new grand strategy masterpiece: Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Taking gamers back to the American Civil War, this innovative grand strategy game allows players to experience the trials and tribulations of the role of commander-in-chief for either side. Historically accurate, detailed and finely balanced for realistic gameplay, War Between the States is also easy to play and does not take months to finish.

The team is very busy with new product releases (you can find them in other forums, war in the east and eagle day). I do not believe we shall have anything anytime soon patch-related if ever.

However we discussed a lot in the private forums on the countless possibility of improvements so a possible future is an expansion as a long term project that will be announced when and IF 2by3 sees it fit.

You may want to add your ideas to the ideas thread in the main game forums so that when and if that time comes there's time to do that too. [:)]

Ah, hurts a little bit.
I purchased the game on 16 June 2008. Start it. Made a few turns - what the f... is this. I could not understand the excellent reviews. I was convinced it was a expensive lost buy.

Now, I don´t know why, started it again. Made many turns. Scratch my head often - stick with the manual and the forum. There are many ah´s and oh´s. And now I´m more impressed every day. [:)]

I get you, we've all been there. It's much more complex than it seems at first view but that's typical of 2by3 games. I knew what was coming because i own other titles but the manual and tutorials are a good place to start from and if you have problems or questions the forums are filled with suggestions and clarifications.

Make sure to read the rule updates in the forums. The game has changed (and improved) a lot after the patches and mechanics have changed quite a bit.

Yes, It is a great game, though it was not completely finished I my estimation, that is just my opinion and some would argue I am just shouting out in the wilderness, rather than just trying to improve the brand.  Bottom line we all know is money. To do any more would have meant some bigger coding time allowances ($) than this closed project will allow.

- A couple of other players and I have started a set of test games under a "gentlemans agreement"  to try fixing what we percieve is an issue regarding the amount of army command control available to the south. Using some simply arrived at agreements.  It will take some play throughs to see if this seems valid- but if ever the Designers get the time, as this game was always sort of a good place to enact new ideas, they might want to do some more tightening up or tinkering with the system. Meanwhile the game is very serviceable and still has enough room in it for inovation and some damned fine games to be played.
I say this as a head to head player only- I do not know how satisfying the AI play is? Someone else would have to address that who only plays Vs AI. - It is just for training purposes as far as I am concerned so I do not think I ever played a full term game out against the AI.

Head to head play is very different and incredibly challenging- the Game incrimental learning sysytem works really nicely, adding game expanding options as you master the real system of the game.  And - again we hope- any additional fine tuning by the developers or even new ideas,  will come from the source - the 2x3 team- who are a bit busy on the current projects at the moment to come back to this one.
So to put some sort of answer to this- The game will stand as it is for now- and it works really nicely- It is a great experience and we all hope they will come back to it some day and yet again fine tune it.  I feel It is very close to fully done.
Meanwhile people are playing it and I think it might still be going through evolution.  There may still be areas that can be improved- as with any game system in this industry- the good ones seem to just grow as they go.

This simulation is very rich in detail and folks with inquiring minds will continue to grow while playing. There is a steep learning curve.

I'm into my second year of playing and consider myself a fair player but players such as Jutland13 and DocOWar are teaching me some hard lessons.

I concur with DocOWar that head to head is the way to play if you can. AI in GGWBTS is like most AI: (1) good for learning the rules but (2) not very good at attacking and sophisticated defending, skills necessary to make this game playable/enjoyable from both sides.
