Heavy Artillery and other Questions

Post by Vasquez »

I purchased WBTS with the holiday sales. A great game btw.

Some quick question:

1. Does it make sence to have HA in coastal towns or ports like Charleston, Norfolk or Wilmington or only at Forts at rivers (like the Mississippi)?
If I understand the manuall right, only at river forts..?

2. Is it usefull to have also Infantry at the forts covering the Mississippi entrance at new Orleans or just HA? Iam also not sure here.

3. Regarding Militia training: Does unit commanders with free Command points (or even no attached units) also try to train unassigned militias if there is a army commander in the same place?
If I understand the manuall right, only the Army commander will act as trainer..?

Glad you are enjoying it!

No, you definitely want HA in all your coastal ports/forts. HA helps tremendously on defense in any fort.

HA is the key to those forts, an infantry unit or two would be helpful but not usually necessary. If you put some there to repel an invasion, expect attrition.

No, only army and theater commanders do that. Unit commanders need militia attached to train them.

Try to keep a commander in all coastal regions, remember that when an invasion is triggered, militia spawns for the defense and needs to be led in combat for a successful defense. This happens with or without fort and/or HA. [:)]

No, only army and theater commanders do that. Unit commanders need militia attached to train them.

Does this mean unit commanders will never attempt to train unattached units if they have spare command points?
Or wont they train unattached units if a army/theater commander is already there?

I had also unit commanders moved to locations where frequently newly created militia units are created. My hope was that they will get a chance to "instant train" them maybe. Is that possible?

Ah - a good hint to give some "bad" unit commanders something to be used for.

So, I just figured out that heavy artillery cannot bombard or be bombarded in coastal cities. So, it's a waste to put it there, instead of on the rivers where it can do more good. That seems like a game flaw in my mind. "It's good for defense" doesn't seem like an adequate argument when field artillery would work as well and is cheaper. Something is missing here.
