Just bought the game - questions about advanced economy

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Just bought the game - questions about advanced economy

Post by MrLongleg »

Started 1805 with economic challenge as Prussia. Now I am adjusting province production and suddenly see strange numbers for overall production. E.g. Cotton shows -3 on the Nation level. There is no Cotton production in Prussia, so how can this become a negative number. I also see negative numbers for luxuries, although the systems tells me, that due to the feudal system Prussia does not need any luxuries.

I walked through all the manuals and the advanced economy tutorial.

Got it too.. but haven't tried it yet... is it maybe they need to import Cotton and Luxuries? Or is importing not done?

I think you can find the answer to that in the Advanced Economic guide (check your personal download area thinggy on the matrix site :))
For a long time, I was confused by the negative numbers I sometimes see in Wool and Cotton. Let me demonstrate what these numbers mean.
First of all, the -1 in Cotton is an illusion. That is how much Cotton will be reduced, at the national level, by the feudal limit. Since France cannot produce Cotton, this figure is ignored.
But if a country could produce Cotton, the -1 would be applied to whatever balance of Cotton that country had. So, for this discussion, let’s ignore it.

Typically you will start a scenario with a small stock of cotton, wool, iron and so on. The amount will only be about 30 units, but it will get used each turn until the supply is exhausted. In this case you will see negative numbers due to the use of your stock of cotton (for textile production) even though you are not producing any.
