Excitement!

Post by drillerman »

I was interested to know and obviously Erik could probably answer this if he doesn't mind.
From the posts on the forums is this excitement level normal, more , less, totally crazy?
Only reading between the lines and the comment Erik made about releasing Friday I get the impression this is excitement is unusual.
Huh?

One thing to keep in mind, the number of players that actually post on the forums are merely a fraction that will buy and enjoy the product. We are the 'vocal minority' so to speak, really hard to judge how well the game will do from the small sample size. There are people in the forums that just can't wait and will buy it the instant it becomes available (I fall into this category) and those that will buy it, but getting it right away is not so much a priority.

Yes,, but, the bigger the vocal minority, the bigger the buying customer base too.

I'd say this and War in the Pacific...have had the most excitement so far pre release....I've noticed...I wasn't interested in the game at all...usually Matrix Sci Fi games appear to me to have been more small indy games rather than big epics...so I took no notice of the Distant World forum until I saw all the posts flying around here and on wargamer about it...so I've taken alot more notice since...still prob wont buy the game though...see how it pans out....not a big Sci Fi fan.

The Indy games do seem to have a lot of diamonds in the rough, and every once in a while a really brilliant gem. They are all good, but some like WiTP and DW look like they will be really good, and possibly appeal to a larger audience. Or maybe its just me? [:D]

Yeah. Playing and watching sci-fi won't help us to resist them much unless we are more advanced by then. It might help us to integrate into their society better; assuming that that's what they want. Heh.

I wouldn't really say that WiTP appeals to a larger audience, but I have only played WiTP and not WiTP:AE, but I'd definitely say DW gets more broad appeal due to the ease of introduction and the ability to choose how much and how little precisely you want to do yourself.

In the grand scheme of things, WiTP is a really popular turned based war game. Not necessarily a popular game when compared to other genres.
