first game, first feeling

Post by olivier34 »

hello
I played my first game as the axis controlling Italia and germany and I am in Jan 43. It tooks me a while to conquer France, I was unable to take Narvik and I lost all the kriegs marine, even the subs.(my amphibious fleet were intercepted several times, until totaly destroy...is that normal ?) I made Italie stay neutral. Roumania and Finland are neutral too. I attacked USRR in May 41 and now, at the end of the year 42, I control Leningrad, Moscou, Stalingrad and all the Caucasus. USA declared war to the axis in May 42. I am surprised that England did not try to open a second front even with the US ? Is there an explanation ? On the east front, I have now armored corps of level 4 in front of me and I am only abble to upgrade to level 4 my own infantery...
I had a lot of fun playing this game but I am disapointed about the air power (not very effective, I was basing my planes anywhere in the rear, is that my mistake ?). About the stategic mvt, I think that there should be a rail network because you need to capture a city to be abble to bring troops to an area of the front and there are not so many citys on the map...what do you think ?
I will appreciate your comments folks
(hope my english is enough clear [:'(]

Use aircraft to bomb the sea zones until the allies go elsewhere. The naval and air component of the game is a bit ackward in the beginning. I usually group the entiire Kriegsmarine into three groups and use them together as one force, never separate. Isolate UK with air assets, land based air wreaks havoc on naval units. If they can't move by sea then their threat will be reduced.

THere has been a great deal on discussions on game improvements but I believe the maker of this game is focused exclusively on their upcoming release "Storm over the Pacific". THere is a forum for that here at Matrix under "Games in Development" or something like that on the main list.
No problem Chief!

thanks for your answer. I used my air power do destroy the bombers and fighters in UK (battle of england won) but only two bombers on air naval mission and there was the french fleet in the north see...I may play both sides in my next game and after that try some pbem. The game must be more interesting with human opponents.

Air units are great against other Air units or Navy. Ground support should be used only with tough defence that otherwise is hard to overcome. Otherwise they suffer big losses, replacement of which is very costly. Also please remember that navy set to raiders do not fight back.
