Panther Games Awarded Defence Contract
Hi all,
I am pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Defence contract. Here's a copy of the official press release.
"Panther Games has been awarded a contract to conduct a scoping study for the Australian Defence Simulation Office ( ADSO ) to determine the Defence requirements for a course of action ( COA ) analyser simulation tool and to plan and cost the development of the Command Ops operational warfare simulation to meet the Defence requirements. The project will run from mid October 2010 to end of January 2011. The study will involve liaison with senior Defence stakeholders and focus primarily on Land warfare. It is part of the Defence Synthetic Environment ( DSE ) Baseline Program designed to develop and sustain the Defence Simulation Capability ( DSC ). "
This is great news for us and for you. Subject to the results of the study, it is expected that Defence will award a subsequent contract to develop a modern version of Command ops. However, this is yet to be confirmed. We are not counting our chickens before they hatch and nor should you. If the development work does go ahead, then we will be able to fund a small full time team of developers. The focus will be on modern warfare and while the terms of any development contract are still to be negotiated, we hope that we will be able to produce an unclassified modern version for the commercial games market. We should be able to also support historical wargaming. Historical wargaming will benefit from access to an enhanced engine.
I won't be getting involved in lengthy discussions on this right now. I will wait till the end of the scoping study when we know for sure if the development contract is going ahead. Then I should be able to provide more details on things like the new features of the engine. For now things are looking very positive. [:)]

That's great!
I love this game, and for me it is one of the best of all times.
So anything that improves the probabilities this series and its game engine continue to be developed and improved makes me happy.
Well done.
Cheers.

Great stuff! Congratulations!
But will the contract bar you from releasing the developed game to the wider public ?

Dave and Paul,
While I am happy for your success after this long hard struggle, I am saddened that the planners in the USA passed over this chance multiple times. No doubt, as a result, the balance of military power in the World is going to shift in this coming decade. At least, you are not selling this technology to Iran or North Korea.
Great news! Good luck!

Great news. I'm very interested in a modern version of the engine, far more than I am an Eastern Front one! Congratulations. [:)]

Yes, congrats, but I would lose all those abbreviations in parenthesis: after all, it's a press release, not a military manual.
I suspect all those buzz terms are meant to be vague for the uninitiated [;)]

Wonderful! Is this a tactical or operational tool? How fast is it supposed to turn around results? Is it supposed to support a human in the loop "table top" experience like many of the conferences held here in the US? A million questions and a bit of worry come to mind. See the report of a study I participated in “Decision Factors for the Operational Warfighter: Explicit Insights” Paper - http://www.dodccrp.org/events/10th_ICCR ... rs/327.pdf ppt http://www.dodccrp.org/events/10th_ICCR ... ns/327.pdf presented at the 2005 The 10th ICCRTS in McLean [The Future of Command and Control]http://www.dodccrp.org/events/10th_ICCR ... reword.htm.
The presentation plays out backwards since the format provided only 15 minutes for actual presentation.

Congratulations!!
Like everyone else, I also hope that things evolve as you perceive they might. Just please don't get so wrapped up in modern that there's no room or capacity left for WWII..............
While Korea could be good because of a large number of conventional style battles, I'm uncertain as to how well this system would work (from a gamer's perspective only) with Viet Nam with fewer of them but lots of search and destroy type actions, or Desert Shield/Storm because it was so one sided. From a historical perspective, other than the Arab - Israeli conflicts what's really left?? Lot's of hypotheticals I suppose.............or otherwise, as I'm sure there will be someone to enlighten me.
Before anyone/everyone jumps all over me please note that I'm a huge fan(boy) and am a little worried about future directions of the commercial versions of the game. IMHO WWII in any single year had more action in a variety of diverse environments than all of the above combined.
Again, congrats on your coup..........you keep publishing and I'll keep buying!! [&o]

So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)
