Not enough scenarios to buy

Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory now comes to the PC in a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame! Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the PC version accurately represents Ancient and Medieval combat where you make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield. This forum also supports the Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows and Immortal Fire expansions to Field of Glory.

Not enough scenarios to buy

Post by vaalen »

Dear Slitherine,

There is only one reason why I did not buy Immortal Fire, after buying the others.

The new packs just do not have enough scenarios. Put a decent number of scenarios in the packs, and I will buy all of them.

But keep providing only six or so new scenarios and I will buy none of them.

An army generator is no substitute for real battles.

A promise of more scenarios in the future is just not good enough, even though I do not doubt your good intentions.

There are lots of good scenarios you can download on the Slitherine Field of Glory forum under the Scenarios sub-section. And they are free!

Hi Vaalen,

thanks for the feedback. When creating the army packs we saw the main focus as the digital army generator in single and multiplayer. We didn't think people placed as much value on the battles, but we have underestimated the demand for these. Going forwards we are increasing the number of battles in each expansion. We have 10 planned for Swords and Scimitars. Is this more in line with what you expect?

As mentioned above there are a huge number of user created scenarios available as well. The map editor is very easy to use.

We have just added a user content system to one of our other games. For Battlefield Academy you can now download user maps inside the game interface and play them without having to find them, download themand install them. It effectively just gives you a larger library if scenarios to pick from. We plan to add this system to FoG once we've ironed out all the issues.

If you are looking for a pure map pack, how many maps would you expect to see and how much would you be preared to pay. Maybe we can look at a completely different type of expansion for this audience if there is a demand.

Thanks

Iain

Hi Iain,

Thanks for responding. Ten scenarios is more in line with what I would like to see. Twenty would guarantee my buying them.

What I am looking for is historical battles, or battles that could have happened. Even totally fictional battles are fine, so long as they are plausible and ready to play. While some user created scenarios are good, especially the ones you have added to the games, some are poorly designed. Not everyone wants to use a map editor or design scenarios. I have far less time for gaming than I would like, and I want to spend that time playing, not generating or downloading.

I am not quite sure what you mean by a map pack, but it you mean something that would give me a substantial number of professional scenarios, I would be very interested in buying them. How much I would be willing to pay would depend on how many scenarios were included. I was quite happy with the number of battles in the first game, and I thought the price was fair.

I have found the digital army generator to be frustrating. It just takes too long to use, and the armies and scenarios just do not feel historical. Setup is also quite frustrating.

I very much appreciate your interest in my feedback.

Thanks,

Vaalen

We're going to see if by enlisting players to design the maps if we can raise the number of historical scenarios to 15-20. No promises at this stage! time is very tight so we may have left it too late to bolt this in for this pack but we'll keep you posted.

Just wanted to support the request for more scenarios

Lazy buggers such as myself want "plug and play" and almost never use "design your own". DYO is good to have for all the good people out there who have the skills and time to create additional scenarios. But historical scenario (even of relatively little known battles) are a must. The more the better

Thanks
