changing unit formation

The Seven Years’ War was fought across the globe and called by some the first “World War” as virtually every major power participated. In the center of events was Prussia, almost constantly at war and lead by the now legendary Frederick the Great.

Relive the exciting and trying days of Frederick the Great in Horse and Musket: Volume I, the improved and expanded combination of the previous Prussian War Machine and Prussia’s Glory titles. Horse and Musket: Volume I is a reboot of the successful Horse and Musket series, including not only two solid historical titles in one package, but also many new game features, a powerful new editor, and a complete graphics overhaul to an already acclaimed gaming system.

changing unit formation

Post by Javolenus »

Hi There,

Apologies for such a basic question, but how do you make units change from column to line etc? Whenever I select a unit and right-click and choose an option, nothing happens. Just to clarify: I select a unit, right-click, choose the change formation option, select my desired formation - but nothing happens ingame. And so I must fight battles with troops in their starting formations, which is not ideal. Please could someone advise me? Maybe I'm missing some very simple thing! Thanks in advance for replies. I should say that I'm using the latest patched version of the game.

Hi PrinzHeinrich. Thank you for quick reply and Merry Christmas to you!

OK, now I have solved the problem by reading the manual again. Basically, I forgot that when changing formation you are also changing the unit's facing and have to click on a hex outside the unit to complete the manoeuvre. This was my mistake - I should have checked the manual before posting. Anyway, thanks again and all the best to you.

By the way, I have begun looking at the scenario editor - very good indeed! I will try to make a small scenario. May I ask - what would be the typical composition of a Saxon Army rearguard in the Silesian war period? Sorry to ask but thought I'd try!

Hello! Thank you for reply. I thought I might attempt to make a small fictitious scenario, just so that I can learn how to use the game editor. I imagined a river with a bridge, a ford, and some marshes; the river crossing is dominated by heights on the northern bank; there are a couple of small villages. My idea was that the scenario would be a clash between advance guard and rearguard units. I thought of Saxon units as a change to Austrians. But I have very limited knowledge of this period! I was just wondering what units would be typical for a Saxon rearguard/Prussian advance guard. I suppose I could research this online but thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks for your patience! Meanwhile, I will take a look at your Saxon scenarios when I get chance.
