Scenario Resource

Post by LoneWulf63 »

In the past I have seen scenarios generated for games such as those in the Battlefront Game's Combat Mission series using conventional wargames such as Advanced Squad Leader. Three years ago I bought the entire series of Avalanche Press' PanzerGrenadier games. At the moment I am awaiting the release of their new games, Kursk 43: North Front and Kursk 43: South Front. To the point. The scenarios found in this series of games would be a great resource for those of you that develop new scenarios and campaigns for PCO. The two that you would find most useful are East Front (over 100 scenarios) and Road to Berlin as well as the forthcoming Kursk games. If any of you that have these game titles would be interested in helping me convert some of the PG scenarios to PCO format, I'd be more than happy to take on the challenge. Chris.

Chris,

I dont have those you mentioned, but I am in the process of creating a PCO version of SL's Hill 621. The map is finished, and I've been playtesting for couple of weeks, but other commitments prompted me to put that on the back burner until I cleared the decks. I also have Hedgehog of Piepspsk and Capture of Balta, but they both need updating to PCO standards.

Once you feel confortable with the game, the scenario editor is pretty easy to use. The Map Maker is not quite so easy, but in my opinion is more flexible than any other game map editor for 3D terrain mesh games. And there is a pretty extensive manual for the Map maker.

Thanks

Rick, you can be assured that I will start working on some scenarios as soon as I've upgraded my computer. I just placed an order for more RAM and a much larger HDD. Once I've got those items and all the necessary software (not one of my favorite things to do). Once I am up and running again, I plan to start some tinkering with the PCO scenario and map editors. When I am confident that I can do so, I'll start out with some smallish scenarios and work up from there. Thanks again for the help. It was and continues to be appreciated. Chris.

I have many of the PG scenarios. I don't have the games though.

My own formula for doing "older" scenarios or conversions is to take the situation described in the scenario and do as much research as I can to see how close I think they got.

There are other designers that do straight conversions.

If you have any questions or would like to try a conversion on a scenario I either have or one you could scan we could work on it if you like.

MR. I have read elsewhere on the PCO forums (can't remember where) that some of guys (gals too I guess) use Google earth as part of their research tools for developing new maps for the scenarios. This sounds like an interesting method, all I have to do now is re-install the program; I had a HDD crash while getting ready to upgrade my computer. Nothing more frustrating to have to go back to the beginning and start all over again, no matter what the situation. Right? Chris.

I use Google Earth to do battle research, but the Map Maker, in PCO, can use it to create your map, as well. So, using GE to locate the battles you want to recreate then flagging them makes it easy for me to find that location anytime I need it.
