How to play Panzer Campaigns?

Post by gradenko2k »

I've got the basics down, such as how to move units, travel mode, directing fire and ordering assaults, but I don't really have an idea of what kind of tactical concepts I should be basing my moves around. I've so far been just shooting at a unit until it hits high/max fatigue or disrupted, then launching assaults with preferably a 3:1 ratio in men.

I don't use tanks on the assault at all, since I get the feeling I shouldn't be putting them in close combat.

Am I anywhere close to doing things right? My dream is to play the Stalingrad grand campaign eventually.

Yup! I could never find a dedicated forum for them, and Matrix Games being the home of the hard-core computer wargamer, I figured I could ask for advice here :)

Well, tactics will change with the various campaigns and situations. What is best and works in one case doesn't always do the same in another. Also of course is the problem of how much strength advantage or disadvantage you have.

Shooting and particularly using artillary and air attacks to disrupt units is a good tactic. Don't assault undisrupted units unless you have a very large ratio advantage. Do use armour in your assaults against disrupted units. In many scvenarios not ever using armor in assaults will make it difficult if not impossible to win the game. Disrupted defenders is the main key, 3 to 1 is great if you can get it, but you may be surprised how succesful you can be against disrupted units. Don't throw armor (tanks) away, but after all, Blitzkrieg needs tanks.

Go to www.theblitz.org Some of the developers and many long-time players of HPS - and other titles, too - hang out there. Also, wargamer.com has some dedicated HPS related sub-forums.
I'll try being nicer if you try being less stupid. - anon

Thanks! That's just the kind of pointers I was looking for :)

For the love of god what is classed as a valid reason when reporting SPAM? Why on earth can't you put the word Spam in the reason box. I've tried a few times to report a post but now I give up.

You must write a PhD type dissertation in the topic box. The minimum number of words required to report spam is 2,920.
