Help a newbie out!

Post by Joel Levin »

Greetings Matrixers.. or whatever you call yourselfs! [;)]

I have just recently joined your ranks. I'm a big sci-fi and strategy game fan and I've been searching for something really good and fun. After being disapointed about almost everything i found and the change of interest over the years have left my game shelf rather empty as of late. Then I heard about Distant Worlds, checked it out and I'm totally in love! then i checked out Matrix and I can see that your customers really like you and your customer support.. (unlike Electronic fArts). Well I would just like to say hello and ask a few questions about your site, it's games and other things. [:)]

First - When purchasing a game through your online shop is it "Pay per download" or is it like Steam were you "buy once = unlimited access" from your account? I've encountered several sites like that and I'm not fond of that system as single digital versions can become corrupted over time and you have to reinstall it and then you have to pay for another download? I mean that hardly seems fair to me.

Second - Do you have seasonal discounts and/or special offers during holidays? I'm unemployed and my wallet isn't exactly the thickets one on this planet, hehe.[8|] If you have those I'll make sure to save a few coins so i can afford it once you offer a discount, i really like Distant worlds and close combat. :)

Sorry for my bad english and I'm sorry if this is the wrong part of the forums.[&:]

Answer to your first question: you download an installation file that you then have to use and should keep a backup of.

Your second question: yes, season sales happen.

Joel, matrix really help out if you purchase a game you should register it first. If you need to download again, I assume you do not have physical shippment or a backup, then Matrix let you download the game again. Quite handy if your pc crahes and you buy a new pc and have reinstall all the games.

I have experienced this before, they help you and they help fast.

Ah I see. So you pay for and download an installation file, but should you (for whatever reason) lose your game and your backup (presuming you have registered the game beforehand) you can download it again? That seems very fair and good to me. The one thing that keeps coming up in this forum is the praise Matrix and it's employees get for it's excellent customer service, I don't think i've ever seen so much good feedback anywhere for anyone before.[X(] I'll soon be able to test it out once i become a paying customer. Joel, do you have any idea what sort of wargames you are interested in? Perhaps an era or style of play? We might be able to help you.

i'm mostly interested in Distant worlds. :)

i like slow paced strategy games of any era. Although i'm not fond of blood and gore nor magic.

Hi Joel, and welcome aboard. Having been part of the Beta testing team for Distant Worlds, I can attest to the excellence of the game. Numerous discussions and fine tunings have made this a cut above the rest. Do bear in mind, owever, that it could get fairly large and complex. Still, a good choice for the genre. You won't regret it.

They do a good job, its not hype. Here recently I lost my Distant Worlds DL file and the first expansion too. I sent them my order # and serial # in the morning and had download links for both by lunchtime (~4 hr!)

And no....there is no multi-player in DW but I highly recommend the game. Lots of stuff to do.
No problem Chief!

Ok! Wow, that's almost a little hard to belive.. :p
Shame on the multiplayer though, I always think multiplayer adds much more flavour. Maybe for a future expansion aye? ;D

Welcome Joel! Matrix has had the Deal of the Week going on for awhile. You can pick up some terrific games and save quite a bit. I know you like sci-fi but you might see something that catches your eye. [X(] Happy Gaming!! [:)]
