Map Factories

Post by Shellshock »

I was futzing about with changing the look of the on-map "printed" factories, but I'm not sure it's much of an improvement. At 18 by 10 pixels there isn't a lot of room to make them look like sprawling industrial complexes and they only look ever this good at maximum zoom.

Not bad, I have to look twice to see the difference between red and blue factories, and that looks a bit easier with yours. Can you upload the graphics file?

You are right. It's the fact that the blue are lighter which makes them stand out. Perhaps this colour can be adapted for the blue factories in the game too. It really makes the difference between blue and red factories better shown on the map, I think...

Maybe even better to have no dark lining around the red factories at all. On a smaller scale that's what makes it less easy to see.

Okay, here are the new factory files for any interested industrialist. Download the attached zip folder and extract the new bitmap files somewhere convenient. Basically, you will be replacing the existing FactoryStackBlack, FactoryStackBlue, FactoryStackBlueDamaged, FactoryStackGreen, FactoryStackRed, and FactoryRedDamaged BMPs in the game's Icon Bitmap folder with these. Back-up or re-name the original files just in case.

Here's a graphic of what they'll look like. Happy Polluting. [;)]

Tricky business this. I edited the black outline to red, and the game hangs during loading. Your original did load - and it is indeed a bit better recognisable from a distance.

I've been tinkering with slimming down the outlines of the factory frames too. Gives the factory graphic a little room to breathe. I tried plain white frames too, but that was a little bland.
