A Few Noob Questions

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

A Few Noob Questions

Post by Max 86 »

Guys,

Just started playing last week and have a few questions.

1. When the "Request for Emergency Supplies" message pops up is there something I need to be doing? Usually a short time later I get the message that supplies were received. Is that message triggered when an enemy unit moves into the supply route?

2. When units are firing, the color line is sometimes gray, instead of red or yellow. What does that gray color mean?

3. How do you assign units to another HQ? I know how to detach and re-attach but have not figured out how to, for instance, attach a tank company from one battalion to a different infantry battalion.

4. Is the realistic orders delay about 15-20 mins? Am I counting that right?

Think that is it for now. Thanks in advance.

No problem Chief!

Guys,

Just started playing last week and have a few questions.

1. When the "Request for Emergency Supplies" message pops up is there something I need to be doing? Usually a short time later I get the message that supplies were received. Is that message triggered when an enemy unit moves into the supply route?

The message lets you know that a unit has run short of supplies prior to the "normal" (0600 & 1800) resupply pulses.

You don't have to do anything to address the issue, but it is a good idea to check on that unit(s) to see why it is in a situation. It can result from a number of issues.

One may be with the supply route security, in which case it might be worthwhile to evaluate a move to a less isolated location with more supply delivery options (for example nearer a road, or closer to a supply base.

Another way by ordering high rates of fire for excessively long times. If the high rate of fire is to attack, and the attack isn't advancing toward it its goals, it might be wise to go over to the defense to hold ground gained while the unit(s) are replenished, and resume the attack later with more units or maneuvers to a better attacking position.

2. When units are firing, the color line is sometimes gray, instead of red or yellow. What does that gray color mean?

I don't watch the firing lines during a combat, as I'm more interested in the unit movement. I'd speculate they refer to the effectiveness of the fire on the target.

3. How do you assign units to another HQ? I know how to detach and re-attach but have not figured out how to, for instance, attach a tank company from one battalion to a different infantry battalion.

Click on the units you want to bundle while holding the control key. When you're done, issue an order to all highlighted units, and the attached unit will follow orders from the headquarters highlighted while holding the control key.

4. Is the realistic orders delay about 15-20 mins? Am I counting that right?

Orders delay reflects the time it takes to translate an order from a higher headquarters into action by subordinate units. They delay is based on the higher headquarters size and the number of units involved in the action.

The standard delay times are explained in the Game Manual under Work With Orders Delay (pg. 113 in my manual) and Orders Delay (pg. 142 in my manual).

Think that is it for now. Thanks in advance.

You'll have to get better information on the firing line color. I couldn't find a discussion of it in the game manual.

Hope this helps.
Take care,

jim

Thanks Jim. I have been reading the manual this evening and will find the passages you mention. The appendix alone made me go "ALRIGHT" out loud! Scared the dog. [:)]

Hi Max
The grey line represents indirect fire, from artillery, mortars, IG guns etc.
