Broken AI

Post by panzerfaustboy »

Look, obviously I am the asshole for falling for it, but really? How could you possibly have broken the most basic of AI? The AT guns do not track targets outside of their secret presets (thanks original programmers*!) Regardless, the $50 or so required for the workaround for windows 7 compatibility breaks the other other mechanics of the game. Not all of them, mind you: Largely just the AT guns are incapable of acting as before. The sad thing is that this supposed reboot of the franchise is in many ways a revert. Maybe I'm just nostalgic (and was not investing at the time) but 1999 was way kinder to me than Cross of Iron has been.

*In the original version, your units were setup in their default orientation. While you could move them and orient them freely in the setup section, when you started the battle they would revert to the orientation of their map determined presets. When the battle began, the tanks and guns would slowly rotate back to the settings indicated by the player.

In conclusion, this was an absurd price to pay for any such retro game. That is clearly my issue. However, if I pay that price, I would hope that the mechanics are largely untouched. The additions to the Russian armory I appreciate, and if its historically accurate, that's all the better. However, if its historically accurate AND the AI is broken in such a way that it substantially changes things, we have an issue.

The most recent update to Cross of Iron addresses an issue with AT gun targeting that is probably the specific problem you mentioned above.
