Construction Ships

Mine in my newest game are actually running off and just building mining stations wherever they want.

1) I didn't know you could make them automatically decide where to build.
2) I don't know how to stop it!!

Any help appreciated ;)

Couple of options (at least):

1. You can cycle through your construction ships in the window in the bottom left, and click on the red circle with the line through it to make the manually controlled.
2. You can open your ships and bases screen, with F10, then filter by 'construction yard', then click the blue circle/arrow in the right hand column (marked 'auto') to make them manual.

Ah so despite the queue being computer controlled, I should not set them to AI control.

Gotcha.

What about new ships being set to computer controlled, do these not apply ?

I'm not absolutely certain I understand the question.

Newly created ships can be de-automated as described above. You can also de-automate them before they're built, in the ships and bases screen.

Alternatively, if you want all new ships to be manually controlled, hit ESC, select Options, select Empire Settings, then uncheck the box near the bottom 'Newly built ships are automated.'

If this isn't what you meant, let me know.

Depends on your play style.

I generally manually control Constructors and Explorers early game.

When things start to get too busy I turn them over to automation, then, if I find a resource/something I want, I just click on it and select what I want built there from the menu options on the bottom of the left lower window.

Yeah I guess I wanted my cake and eat it too, I wanted explorers auto, but construction not ;)

There's no reason you can't do that now, I just mentioned Explorers because they're another Class I micromanage to a degree.

You can have all, some, or none of each automated, it's all up to you.

Yeah just turn off automation on the individual ship rather than using the universal settings.
