How long does it take to conquer Spain and Gibraltar?

Post by Mayhemizer_slith »

In my game it is M/J 1940 and France may fall during this turn. Yugoslavia and Greece has fallen already. Hungary, Romania and Finland are aligned with Germany. Finland is in war with USSR and seems like USSR stopped attacking after losing 3 units. Italy fights in Egypt and they captured Cairo, but they cant take Suez. Italy in is trouble with supply and I would like to take Gibraltar.

If France falls in M/J, how long does it usually take to conquer Spain and Gibraltar? Is Barbarossa 1941 totally impossible? I will not try Sea Lion... Italy can help attacking Spain at least with some planes.
If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.

My usual timetable was to expect 4 turns to break Spain, and 2 more to take Gibraltar, but I usually played with DSB, which makes breaking the Rock tougher. Remember also, that if you don't want the double U.S. Entry and pretty much all the benefits of Vichy vanishing in the haze, you'll need to fully conquer France, not just vichy and then collapse it.

So usually, if you do this, it's a 42 Barb: OTOH, it sounds like you have the allies on the ropes, and if you send a few Arm to help crack Suez, (They're not much use in the Pyranees), and then attack in 42 driving up through Persia and Iraq.... it's pretty awesome.

And Italy's more important when dealing with Spain for the threat rather than the execution. Rail down a few inf divs to wherever the Italians have some SCS. Just the threat to walk into somewhere like Almeira or Cartagena on the surprise impulse and then start opening a second front means that the Spanish can't throw everything they've got right at that tough mountain line, which makes breaking them easier.
"When beset by danger,
When in deadly doubt,
Run in little circles,
Wave your arms and shout."

The biggest question I would have is have the French gotten anything into Toulouse?

I beat France quite early one game and went for full conquest, but the French managed to get two MNT and a div into Toulouse. Between bad weather and those units it took me more than 2 turns just to get them dug out.

Getting through the mountains in Spain takes some time too.

I suspect that getting a 41 Barbarossa off is not something that happens often if you also go for Gibraltar via Spain.

Things are not quite that well to be honest. Italy has only one transporter left and no flying boats. They are in trouble in Mediterranean Sea. In S/O Germany can help with FW Condor. And Italy gets mariner in J/A to threat Spain.

Lets see what happens...

Thanks for advice to both of you.
